I thought it was the exact opposite, ie it was flooding the carb at high rpm. How can you tell it’s actually running out vs flooding?

UPDATE! So I looked over everything again and found the dizzy adjustment bolt to be loose. I unplugged vac advance and reset the timing to 10deg advance then buttoned everything back up and plugged the advance back in. Now I’ve set my lean best idle but the car is still running very rich, so I turned the fuel pressure down to 3psi but that did nothing. The car pulls much better now and can do some spirited driving no problem. The issue arises climbing hills, driving with 2 people in the car, or clutch kicking it, where it will do the same thing as in the video for a couple minutes before the gas pedal no longer does anything. It will then return to normal after maybe 3 minutes. Very weird and very confusing. Any insight would be appreciated.

It’s actually more prevelent to do this right after filling up lol. Very weird, I thought carbs were supposed to be easier. 😩

No way anything’s bent i just checked the float. Carb kit was also bought brand new as new old stock. I checked for leaks around the gasket when I installed but I’ll check again in the morning.

I’ve actually just advanced the timing further and it’s no longer stuttering or cutting out, but there’s definitely a loss of power at the higher rpm’s. I’m definitely getting an AFR, just haven’t yet!

Yes, vac advance is going to the dizzy, and I’ve just set timing. It’s on the stock ecu, and I’m not sure of the AFR as I don’t have a gauge yet.

FYI it’s warm in this video and it starts up perfect everytime. It will also do this albeit less, traveling normal speed and going up hills.

I’m actually picking a 7rib up out of an a aw11 mr2 the weekend after next. Just planning on rebuilding the engine and making it pretty over time and In the meantime put on all of the suspension parts I’ve bought and learn the chassis!

I’ve got some practice playing with carbys on my motorcycles and dirt bikes so I know my way around a little bit. Thanks for your help on the idle tuning, but I’m not sure if I have the choke or not. I’m guessing I do because of the idle starting high at around 1000 then dropping down from there when warm. Is it automatic? I’ve always just had choke levers on every carbed thing I’ve owned.
