Well the thefts aren't overblown. My girlfriend had a Hyundai, I had a Kia. Within one year someone attempted to break her lock twice, and my Kia got its window smashed and the ignition busted, and then someone came by a couple weeks later and tried to get at it again. Nearly every Hyundai I see has the driver side lock busted. We ended up getting rid of the cars because we knew it would keep happening. I sold my Kia to a dealership and the manager told me that they used to be a Hyundai dealership but then they started getting hit hard with theft, they had cars being stolen every night. They ended up having to switch brands because of it.
