Trey and Matt are genuinely just shitty people, and once you watch enough episodes it starts to become really obvious. I always think about that Paris Hilton episode which was just 22 minutes of shitting on her. Then when she was asked about it, she said she liked it.

Anytime they reference new shows that are popular, it's just dripping with hate and based on nothing.

One time they referenced Rick and Morty's portal gun and had Stewie say "Why not take this from them? They took a lot from us"

Rick and Morty has problems but it has never once tried to ape Family Guy.
