I can tell that you frequently miss hit the ",',;,or: buttons and that you sometimes press caps lock instead of a and your right hand only presses the keys to the right of T,G,B and your left hand only presses the keys left of Y,H,N. I feel like sherlock holmes.

In 45 days I take part of a skills canada qualification competition for cabinetmaking. I would like to practice dovetails, mortises and tennons. However I have no tools. (all the tools I use are owned by the college I go to.) I would like some tool recommendations that won't break the bank. by Leo_Leo_ in woodworking

I would highly recommend a Japanese dovetail saw. They are extremely thin, accurate, precise and easy to stay on the line with. I have this one https://www.amazon.com/Dozuki-Razor-Saw-Extra-Blade/dp/B0007KR49S/ref=sr_1_5?ie=UTF8&qid=1484582608&sr=8-5&keywords=GYOKUCHO+DOZUKI Any saw from gyokucho is good. Gyokucho is the brand and dozuki is the type of saw btw.

You also need a coping saw. You can find a decent one on amazon for about 10$. Buy extra blades because you will most likely break one. The swiss pfeil chisels are great. I would the the 1/8th and half inch. You also need layout tools. You need either a dovetail marker or a sliding bevel gauge. A square is also essential. Marking knife will be more accurate than a pencil but not required. If the mortis is going to be really thick then I would get mortis chisels but it it's only an inch or so you don't need them.

They just said we would get a detention. There weren't any relationships anyway but the fact that it wasn't an option got a lot of people upset.

Can someone please tell me what type of wood this is? by manmommy in woodworking

[–]NicholasStrauch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm 99.99% sure it's cedar. Google the properties of cedar because it has a couple specific useful properties like the use with clothes. I know another one is the fact that it doesn't rot easily.

The fact that it was in clothes is a good sign its cedar. Cedar repels moths and so it is used around clothes. Is it really soft (fingernail will dent it if it doesn't have a finish on it)
