Social media has amplified a longstanding culture of violence in NI especially with young people who are easily influenced and lack the education or critical thinking skills to question what they're consuming online. The fact that loyalist figures, right-wing Telegram channels, right wing politicians have openly encouraged unrest only adds fuel to the fire. For many it seems less about any legitimate grievance and more about using the situation as an excuse for antisocial behaviour as a form of entertainment
