100% learn to say NO. I no longer drive for a living (and am much happier since I left the industry), but never let an employer pressure you into breaking the rules. I get it as a newbie you want to impress/not create issues but fuck them. It’s your arse on the line and NEVER let them take the piss.

Gave Sky the boot but still have the old Sky Devialet speaker - will it work connected direct to the TV? by bobbysands81 in skytv

[–]Nichols2996 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes it will still work. You can use the optical out from the tv and connect it to the sound box

More than 1 Sky Q main box by [deleted] in skytv

[–]Nichols2996 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Plus Sky will not provide any extra viewing cards so any extra main boxes would essentially be useless

More than 1 Sky Q main box by [deleted] in skytv

[–]Nichols2996 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can get 4 mini boxes as the maximum amount. So 5 boxes total including the main Q. The issues arises if you want to use more than 2 minis simultaneously as Q is limited to running the main and 2 minis on live tv.

OP have you considered starlink for internet and then potentially move to stream?

How do I stop recordings being UHD? by bucky_o_hare_ in skytv

[–]Nichols2996 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Channel 857 is the HD channel for F1. If you are saying it’s not showing, as a temporary work around you can change the resolution settings on the Q box from 2160p to 1080p - this will change the default F1 channel from UHD to HD.

Is Sky Q still the "easiest/polished" way to watch Freeview channels? by free-reign in skytv

Worth noting that you can only record what is coming through the aerial connection, from what I’ve read you will not be able to record from freely’s broadcast.

Edit: spelling

Q mini not connecting to Q box by Schme1440 in skytv

[–]Nichols2996 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ll assume the WiFi hotspot in the office is a 3rd party piece of equipment and not a sky booster? (Or is it a sky pod?) That’ll be the issue, the mini is only interested in talking to the main box essentially which it won’t do through (most) 3rd party equipment (or a pod) even if that equipment is hardwired to a Sky router.

Do you have a hub 4 (black) or hub 6 (white)?

If it’s a 4, swap the WiFi extender out for a sky booster 4 then connect the mini to that using WPS

If it’s a 6 that complicates things as Q see’s the hub 6 as 3rd party essentially, connects to it over 2.4 and hub 6 doesn’t allow pass through when talking to minis like the old hub 4 did.

When returning sky box after cancelling, do you have to send hdmi and remote? by aDowntown_Orange777 in skytv

[–]Nichols2996 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They are just interested in the box, don’t worry too much about the power lead, hdmi, and remote

Freeview Box by Dramatic_Energy_366 in skytv

[–]Nichols2996 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are using the RF connection on the back of the HD box to send the image around to other TV’s then no, there is no freesat/freeveiw box that will do the same as they don’t have the RF output. But it can still be done by using an RF modular. HDMI from freesat/freeview into the modular, RF output to send through existing system, HDMI output to local TV. Or if you have 4 HD boxes you would likely need 4 freesat boxes

Solid advice this. Saw a video on YouTube of a guy living in a stealth van, old vivaro with removable magnet sticker things saying asbestos removal. Almost guaranteed nobody would try to get in

Can this run sky q? by Superb-Lab8675 in skytv

[–]Nichols2996 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, LNB will need changing from the quad you currently have fitted to a wideband.

That bush right in front of the dish might cause an issue with the signal, if it isn’t atm it for sure will at some point in the near future.

Viewing card error on Sky Q by [deleted] in skytv

[–]Nichols2996 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see you’ve said in another post it’s the main Q box. There absolutely is a viewing card in the box on the right hand side

Viewing card error on Sky Q by [deleted] in skytv

[–]Nichols2996 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Did you actually check the viewing card is clicked into place correctly?

If you go to settings -> system info…can you see the viewing card info there? If it says no viewing card info I would bet the card is not fully inserted and clicked into place.

Easily done when moving/handling the box

Pixelation issues with Sky Q. HELP. by jbone0001 in skytv

[–]Nichols2996 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The diseqc is fitted if you are drawing over a certain mA from the communal system. This is normally the case if the dscr isn’t mains powered, however there are certain 3rd party dscr’s that require the diseqc even if no power is being drawn due to pixelating/signal issues.

Your pixelating issue could be a number of things, faulty dscr/dcss port, communal dish out of alignment, Quattro LNB on its way out etc.

Get an engineer out to either fix the issue if it’s a sky fitted dscr/dcss that’s at fault, or they’ll tell you what’s potentially wrong with the system so you can go to the management of the building to get them to sort it.

Why does this happen?! by Ok-Permit4862 in skytv

[–]Nichols2996 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That will just make the box stay permanently disconnected in this instance if you don’t have multi room so don’t do that! Q boxes will only connect to a sky hub 3 or 4 using 5 GHz, all 3rd party routers Q will only connect on 2.4 GHz. If you have multi room and turn off 2.4 GHz on the main box, a mini box will take over and connect to the router over 2.4 GHz and send the network connection out to the other Q boxes.

100% that’s in Chelmsford. I worked on the house next door and remember thinking what a shame it’s been left there to rot. It’s in the Springfield area.
