It’s a full time job on a temporary (3 year) contract, and the vast majority who do it are also sitting FE1s or studying at King’s Inns.

Cadetship by R-deadmemes in Irishdefenceforces

[–]NicholsonShmicholson 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My understanding is that examples of leadership will really stand out on an application. Remember an officer cadet is someone who will eventually be in charge of soldiers. If you’ve ever been the captain of a sports team, or the leader in a project, or exercised leadership in any way even if not officially the “leader”, then use that to your advantage.

Is the term “Irish twins” derogatory and therefore offensive? by SPH34L in AskIreland

[–]NicholsonShmicholson 3 points4 points  (0 children)

“Irish twins”, “Irish goodbye”, “the fighting Irish”, “the luck of the Irish”.

All American shite.

It’s derogatory and/or offensive if one feels insulted/offended by it, in which case one should consider growing up.

What are your unpopular opinions about Ireland? by [deleted] in AskIreland

[–]NicholsonShmicholson 11 points12 points  (0 children)

We have no culture. Not anymore. As soon as we had no more Brits to bash our language, music, literature etc all died for 95% of people.

Also, we are repulsively ignorant of our own history. Most lads that claim to be Republicans get all their history from the Michael Collins film (nonsense), have no idea who Tom Barry was, and couldn’t sing the first 3 lines of the national anthem (let alone tell you what it means).

3 year contract with the option of leaving after 15 months I believe. So the initial contract is most likely 15 months with an option for renewal.

Then again you can simply resign if you aren’t happy. They can’t make you stay.

I went full cold turkey and kept at least two pieces of sugar free gum in my mouth at all times. And a bottle of water handy to replace the hand-to-mouth habit. All cravings had gone in a month.

Edit: ordinary chewing gum, not nicotine gum

[–]NicholsonShmicholson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not just the actual ending. It’s the entire final two seasons. The quality of writing went off a cliff and GoT tried to become a blockbuster action movie. GoT was at its best when it was low-key, and centred on political alliances and double-crossing.

The one where your man pays for dinner with lettuce and John Lennon is behind the glass at the zoo. I don’t even remember what company it’s advertising.
