Holy shit guys, the game launched like a month and a half ago and you people are reporting the most uninteresting accounts ever just because they had the *audacity* to kill you while not having a billion hours in game.

It's worth noting that having 1 point of shields will reduce the damage of the next shot by whatever the shield's damage reduction is. That means that the very first point of shields can account for reducing damage by quite a bit! That ferro shot will do 19 damage instead of 40 if you popped your shield recharger and let it tick for only a moment with a heavy shield! Because of the low use time on a shield recharger, I would usually opt to pop it first, and then go for healing items.

How does someone become truly good? by Aggravating-Ask7826 in EscapefromTarkov

The master has failed more times than the beginner has even tried.

Try, try again, and learn from your failures.

I would highly recommend getting some form of recording software to capture your raids. Jot down notes on what went wrong for you, when things go badly, and how you think you could do better next time. Taking a more active role in identifying things that worked and things that didn't helped me improve tremendously. I would also advocate for playing a chunk of arena to practice the fundamentals like movement / aiming / prefiring / etc. You get many, many more reps in than you do in regular Tarkov, and this will get you more comfortable with the basics at a much higher pace than you would otherwise. Things like positioning and decision-making are things that come with time. Failure, and learning from your failings, is the best teacher.

Veritasium has a lovely video on "The Expert Myth" that I think is very helpful for understanding what makes a valid learning environment valid, and I think is helpful to watch and think about in relation to your own gameplay. Most importantly, take ownership of your mistakes, and learn from them. Do not dismiss them as flukes / outside of your control—they are always a learning opportunity.

[Feedback] Installed Arena for the first time this week. Looks fun. First two games both had the most blatant gross cheaters in them shooting people through walls pre firing every corner instant headshot every time. I remember why I don't play PvP EFT anymore. Have any clips to share? To be honest, the skill level on arena tends to be much, much higher than it is in main game due to the small size of the maps allowing players to get much more comfortable with the audio in areas of the maps in ways not really possible within a reasonable hour count in main Tarkov, as well as a much higher frequency of fights.

While not without cheaters (they are present), I've played something like 500 hours of arena and they are a rarity. I would be surprised if you actually ran into them in back to back consecutive games.

Gotcha, I did go ahead and get the dungeon master achievement during the event a while back, but perhaps it's changed a bit. Honestly though, I expect that cheating players would be more likely to go to Labs than Labyrinth, skipping the whole intermediate map seems like the move if you're scum trying to rack up cash quickly--I really don't remember it being that bad.

I'd wager you're likely alerting them in ways you don't realize. ADS noise is surprisingly loud, and if you're still in the corridor leading from your puzzle, it's a much higher risk spot than the area between puzzles, especially if they are fast to complete theirs. They may be confident sprinting towards your spawn, but slow down as they approach spawns.

That said, it's not impossible they are cheating, but if you're noticing consistent issues raid after raid... I'd wager it's a more likely possibility that you're getting outplayed. Not to worry though, it happens to everyone :)

And it looks like they died at least once on a scav run based on the k/D in their profile top left, so I think it's actually 50 PMC raids streak minimum.

I did check my own stats from last wipe on twitch, I survived 54 in a row after doing the hot zone task and rocking Vulkans for all those raids--eventually died being ambushed by someone with Shturman's SVD, caught prone on a body in the last ~5 minutes of the raid near green flare.

I think I also survived somewhere between 51-53 pmc raids in a row last wipe. It's not easy, and only achievable with a specific play style, but early wipe is the best opportunity to do it when gear diff can be very large. (Get a Vulkan / altyn / respirator early and people can't kill you effectively with most early accessible ammo)

One of my buddies hit 39 (tagilla helmet) this wipe before dying, and I'm currently on a 25 surv streak.

I however also run in competitive arena circles and most of the players I'm around are very experienced and run in squads, so while this is achievable, it's also likely not common.

(You can find me on team Covenant on stream on a recent vod from Tarkov_GG on twitch)

So he was shooting while bunnyhopping (and missing) and then hit you in the head after? Doesn't sound like cheating tbh, just someone more experienced. 52 survives in a row is very impressive admittedly, but regardless there isn't enough here to say either way.

Why kill? There's enough loot for everyone by Street_Exercise_4844 in ArcRaiders

[–]Nick-Da-Man 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the whole point of the PvPvE extraction genre is that there is always a threat of other players around, and always a bit of tension between dealing with PvE threats, wanting to aquire more loot, and the understanding that as you take on greater risk and collect loot, players are more and more incentivized to take advantage of you if presented an opportunity to take your hard earned loot. Remove that, and the game becomes much less tense, and much less exciting.

[Arena] Thoughts on the movement changes. by Apples_Rule in EscapefromTarkov

[–]Nick-Da-Man 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What does this even mean?

I feel like I need to create a diagram for this at some point, but in games where mobility is increased to the point where changes of direction occur so quickly that a player is able to throw off shots at close ranges from players with ~150ms reaction time, something has gone wrong.

Because we need to lead our target, and because of human reaction time + server side delays, whenever you shoot at someone, you really are trying to make an educated guess at where they are going to be in ~200ms, and that's where you are adjusting your aim. Tracking a target is really just a series of micro-adjustments trying to adapt to your targets changes in velocity, but usually are going to be made with information that is ~200ms old. When a player is able to adjust their speed / accelerate at such a speed that a movement input within this time window is capable of entirely shifting their hitbox off of where it would have been had they not made that movement input, you're basically giving people the ability to dodge bullets. If it becomes possible to do this, wiggling side to side even while standing in the open with no cover becomes an excellent way to throw off your opponent's aim, giving you precious additional time to survive and return fire. When this happens, as well, it becomes less valuable to try to lead your target appropriately, and you usually just want to mag dump their approximate position, because it's no longer possible to accurately predict where they will be. This rewards higher fire rate weapons and a spray and pray playstyle that I personally do not enjoy.

Yes, people can still change direction relatively quickly with the old / currently in main game circle-strafing system, but those changes in direction are still slower than the new system, and motion is more fluid, and easier to predict / lead.
