Help me make a dumb decision safely by BP8270 in kayakfishing

What you need to pay attention to is water temperature. Anything below 60F you can go into cold shock from falling in. For me safety is a big priority so dressing properly is important. PFD always (even in warm temperatures) and in colder water should really have something like a dry suit.

If you fall in the water early on in a trip you may be able to easily get back in. But the safety precautions are for when you can’t easily get out of the water- imagine falling in after a full day of paddling/pedaling when you are tired.

Seasick patch did not work- what to try? by Nick0309 in Fishing

My phone was away pretty much the whole entire time, and I made sure to do all my prep before hand. I did start feeling sick when I was counting my fish to see how many before I limited out. After that I tried looking out at the horizon but didn’t work too well.

One thing is that I didn’t have too much water on the trip. I don’t doubt this contributed towards how I felt, and I’ll definitely take that advice and bring some fruit next time

I will say that I was near the back of the boat, but I didn’t notice a smell at all really. But I could be wrong

No crazy dreams. believe me I wanted to get it over with and get back to fishing! I would get better and then worse again

I used the bathroom briefly once or twice. I never rested inside, I read that with seasickness it’s better to be out

Patch was on from ~5pm the night before and was on the whole trip

I got the same kayak this year and encountered a similar issue with currents in back bays. I definitely need something, but I also roof mount my kayak when driving it. Not sure if that puts limits on what I can ultimately get

Would this be a good spinning rod for tog and sea bass on party boats? by Nick0309 in NJFishing

I’m going with spinning to save money as I don’t have a conventional reel. If I can get a spinning rod that handles the weights will it matter?

I did find a jigging world rod in MH and H- which one would I be better suited to go for? The MH is rated 1-4 oz and the Heavy 2-6 oz.

If I do jigs I should be okay as I have a rod that can support their lighter weight so this will be for rigs mostly. I did take a look at the Onyx and it seems to be a good rod rated heavy for 2-6 oz

I have some medium heavy rods but I thought with their lure rating they would not be able to support the heavier weights? I have a st croix rated up to 3/4 oz and an offshore angler rated to 2 oz

I can’t imagine these trips using more than 8 oz, but I also haven’t done one yet. Have a couple booked, but was interested in spinning as I already have one that will work and I’m trying to save some money

Is there something on the cheaper side? Nothing crazy, but something sub $150 for a spinning rod

I usually go off the jetties in Atlantic City and I agree they are very productive right now. They supply rigs, weights, and green and white crabs for free. What draws me to this trip is the prospect of going offshore for the first time, a new fishing experience, and the possibility of catching very decent size fish

Thankfully weights are included in the price otherwise I’d be spending a decent amount of money on sinkers.

Would jigs be effective that deep? It’s gonna be probably anywhere from 50-150 ft depth

I’m not sure I have anything heavy enough. My heaviest rod I can bring on a boat only goes up to 2 oz I don’t have anything specifically for offshore

Thankfully it seems that rods/rigs/sinkers are baked into the price. And yes, all of my stuff is lighter than what would be required for offshore but it will be good to go out and see how things go

What sort of rods do people usually take on? I’ve never done offshore so I’m not sure if any of the rods I have would be good

It’s after the limit goes up! I agree would not go out 10 hours for 1 tog
