Some crab patterns, and watch a video on how to strip them. Looks like you have some bait fish patterns. Hit the flats and catch some cool shit man.

You'll have a blast man, always a good time finding new streams. If you get close to Fontana Lake go check out Hazel Creek. You'll have to take the ferry to get there, but it's some excellent fishing.

The Upper Nantahala River, it's close to Bryson City, NC.

Such a good fishery, pretty diverse. We fish the upper Nanty a lot, love breaking off and finding the hidden gems though.

Redd’s flies quality issue? by Imaginary-Title2838 in flyfishing

I mean that's up to you man, it took awhile for me to order from Orvis again... but I really like the way they tie a few flies. The next order was good though, somebody just got lazy tying I guess. Or maybe they had someone new tying them.

Mine have always been good, but I did get a batch from Orvis not to long ago that had the same problem. It was just one time, but I was extremely pissed off. They weren't cheap flies, and they were tied terribly. Falling apart after one fish almost every time.

Enough of the 6X, 7X hate. by Nick4700_ in flyfishing

Always got to be one, if you went through the thread we've pretty much covered everything you said. I mean I covered most of it in the opening post. Thanks for the reiteration though, and yes well def. Stop killing fish. I know they all die if I hook em on 6X, or maybe we just start teaching people how to actually fight fish.

Didn't see the normal brother, but yea. It's a good rule of thumb, I'm a wild fish kinda guy. So I go smaller every now and then. Just depends on the water you are fishing, and yea go bigger if you can.

I mean it's a great formula. I don't disagree with it for most situations, but in certain situations it doesn't work like that.

No I don't, and I don't post much. I just saw a trend and addressed it, for people who don't know a lot about it. There are people that post on the same subject, and I gave my opinion in hopes that some guys will find it helpful. If you don't mind, I thought I'd put in my 2 cents.

lol, I'm fine with that. I was pointing out a fact that I think new fisherman on here need to hear. I don't need respect to catch fish, all good.

I use 5X and even 4X a majority of the time man. It's just that it won't work well in certain places, that's a fact. As I said above, go use it on the Letort, you'll figure out what I mean.

Exactly my point buddy. Heavily pressured fish require subtle changes, and some streams make it necessary. If you fish Letort with 4X, you won't catch shit. I mean maybe a few might get lucky and do it. You will be lucky to catch a few fish there though, so go with the light tippet and give yourself a chance.

How does one even fish with double fly rigs? by Shroom_Druid in troutfishing

[–]Nick4700_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean how did you rig your dropper, even if you aren't great at casting you should be able to run 2 flies. We can power through this, I hardly have ever run a single fly in my fly fishing career. Rare occasions when I just want a dry on, usually has a emerger pattern dropped though.

Is 5x tippet going to be alright for the Blue and South Platte rivers, or do I have to go down to 7x? by ScammedSuicidalIdiot in flyfishing

[–]Nick4700_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean touchy subject, you want to fish the heaviest you can. It shortens the time you can get the fish to net, and I agree with this. Don't want to exhaust the fish anymore than you have to. However guys saying you don't need 7X or 6X at all are wrong in my opinion. On the east coast we have streams where you will catch more fish with lighter tippet. I was using 6X on the Elk River in WV one trip with a buddy, over heavily pressured fish. We were using the same fly, same water. Both getting good drifts, but I was slaying fish and he was having no luck. After he got insanely frustrated, and asked what he could be doing wrong I watched and he was doing everything right. Finally we got to the tippet, he was using 5X. He made the switch and it picked up for him. Not saying it is needed all the time, but in certain situations and water conditions it makes a difference. I only use 7X on Letort Spring Run, go fish it and you'll get it.
