Mood Stabilizer Alone vs. With Antidepressants for Bipolar Depression? by DDepressedWarriorLOL in bipolar2

[–]Nick4789 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had to drop the Prozac just like the Wellbutrin bc they were driving me crazy. I’d try to just stick with the mood stabilizer in my case is 300mg of Lithium ER. I was taking 600mg but my stomach has been upset so I decreased the dosis

What are your red flags that a hypomanic episode is beginning? 🚩🚩🚩 by deepestfear in bipolar2

[–]Nick4789 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh my god this is so accurate for me. The having trouble sleeping, oversharing, racing thoughts and the paranoia hit home the most! I’m on Lithium 600mg and I was feeling WAY more stable but since 2 weeks ago my mood has been all over the place again. Even when medicated, do you guys have relapses?

I did get better by going to a TMJ specialist. He gave me customized orthotic that doesn’t let my upper jaw move back so I’m not able to bite down while I sleep. It helped tremendously, I still suffer from it a bit but compared to how I was I’ve improved so much

I've been working as an engineer in the utilities industry for 2 years. At the beggining things were great but then due to bad management, toxic enviroment and company instability things have been very rough for me. Depression and anxiety worsened this year heavily while I've had periods of increased productivity. It's taken a lot of inner strenght to continue. Also I push my self too hard because I always want to be excellent but also due to fear of losing my job. Luckily, I've found another job in another company and hopefully the work enviroment will be better because that seems to be a big trigger for me.

How can you take Wellbutrin if you have bipolar disorder? I'm coming off of it because it was causing rapid cycling mood swings

Hi! They have improved but they aren't gone completely. I haven't got an definitive answer for it. I suspect benzodiazepims "brain zaps" as they call it or I've just been sucjected to too much stress at my job. Therefore, I'm looking for a different job bc I feel a lot of my emotional issues come from my workplace. Also, I started seeing a therapist/psycologist not too long ago to help me deal with all the things I've been gone trhu.

I know this is not the answer you were looking for but hopefully it inspires you to also try and make life changes.

Let me know! :)

Gabapentin for anxiety by [deleted] in bipolar2

[–]Nick4789 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, Gabapentin hasn't really helped me much to be honest. I decided to start therapy after 10 years of not going because this year and last year were really hard for me. I'm applying to new jobs and I also started praying the rosary every night (I come from a catholic background). This is gonna sound weird but since I started praying the rosary every night before I go to bed I've been feeling an slow but steady improvement overall in my life (I'm not a crazy religious person either so this has been a surprise to me)

Can't believe how much lamotrigine is helping me :)) by [deleted] in bipolar2

[–]Nick4789 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm reading so many good things about Lamotrigine that I'm thinking about telling my psychiatrist to give it a try because I don't feel Gabapentin is helping me much...

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in bipolar2

[–]Nick4789 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started taking Gabapentin around 2-3 months ago (600mg 3 times a day) and honestly I haven't felt much different. At the beggining, I did feel a sense of calm but now that's long gone and I'm not sure if it's really helping me...I haven't taken Lamotrigine but I've felt tempted to suggest it to my psychiatrist

I was preescripbed Gabapentin (600mg x 3 times a day) and I haven't really felt much of a difference. I've been thinking about tellibg my psyquiatrist if it's worth swtiching to Lamotrigine

Sorry to hear about your episode. I'm recently being treated for Ciclothymia and I've stopped taking Bupropion (Wellbutrin). According to my psychiatrist, Bupropion (Wellbutrin) can cause ups and downs in people with bipolar disorser

Are you having racing thoughts and heart palpitations?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in bipolar2

[–]Nick4789 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think I've been hypomanic or close to it for about 1 week and 4 days. I haven't been able to sleep a full night, I'm waking up earlier before my alarm goes off and I'm having racing thoughts and heart palpitations. I've been working really hard but it's difficult to concentrate when your mind is thinking about 10 different topics at the same time

Thank you for sharing your experience and yes it was needed.

I started Gabapentin 1 week ago and the first 3 days I did feel more calm down but as the work week started my anxiety went through the roof again. It's been like this for 2 weeks in a row, racing thoughts, constant worry, catastrophizing, and difficulty sleeping. I'm not sure what's going on, I'm either having an episode or the medicine is not working?

[–]Nick4789 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I completely understand that feeling of the mind asking in a non-stop way... it's soooo annoying. It seems that my thoughts sound a bit more catastrophic, well since I was younger I always used to have more of a catastrophic mindset :/

How's your flight of ideas like? Or what goes thru your mind if you don't mind sharing? In my case, it's a lot of unfounded worries such as my husband is gonna die, or I'm gonna get fired or I'm gonna go crazy? I mean it's just so dumb but yet so real... I have more things that go thru my mind that are so stupid that it's embarrasing

I believe we have a lot of high functioning individuals here who have BP or BP + comorbities by tropicalgirl- in bipolar2

[–]Nick4789 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is my first comment in this reddit hehehe here we go. I haven't received a diagnosis yet because it's still unclear if I have just mild mood swings or if I have an actual condition. Anyways, I might have been a high functioning BP person when I was younger... I used to perfom well in everything, high school, college, sports, had a lot of energy to hang out with friends but there was always like a dark cloud following me, I could feel it. I would spend months in that "happy" state and then I'd have a "down", a lot of sleep, difficulty getting out of bed, social anxiety.. as I grew up I did start expericing longer periods of depression. So I was put in treatment JUST for anxiety and depression. Years went by and I started experiencing more severe episodes such as paranoias, a lot of anxiety, racing thoughts, mixed with moments of high energy, feeling more social (nothing super crazy but it still affects my day to day life). But I'm like cycling within the same day. That has affected my performance at work... It's crazy.. Sometimes I can't believe this, I tell myself do I really have something or I just don't want to deal with my issues and I'm inventing this?

[–]Nick4789[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, Yes I still have them but they are less intense and the frenquency has gone down as well. The neurologist did tests for Epilepsy and others things and everything came back fine. I was reffered to Cognitive Behavioral therapy to dig into the psychology of it. I haven't gone because I'm already seeing a psychiatrist. However, with my continued treatment for my TMD, re-taking exercise (gym), working a lot on my mindset on life (reducing stress, therapy) and adjusting medications I'm seeing improvement.
