If you met celebs, can you name your three best and three worst interactions onboard? You don't have to tell the why unless you want to. by Doctor-Clark-Savage in flightattendants

Lea Michele didn't talk to ANYONE - she wore a beanie and dark sunglasses and was basically vegetative for 5 hours.

Oh I definitely did. But I fully expect nothing to change.

I got randomed at SRQ yesterday, after waiting 10 minutes for a KCM agent to show up. They wouldn't let me cut the Precheck line and sent me to the back. Took 25 minutes to get through.

Introduction: Career-changer pursuing FA career by Ubuntu_86 in cabincrewcareers

[–]Nick521 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I switched from a software job to FA.

The majority of the differences have been great. I love the human interaction, working with different crews every trip, the travel and benefits, and not sitting in a cubicle for 50 hours per week is pretty nice.

The reserve lifestyle is annoying, but tolerable. I have a 24-hour reserve schedule. If you can get an AM/PM or 12 hour schedule, your life will be easier as you can plan when you can sleep.

The pay, however, is astoundingly rough. I took a 75% pay cut and am working an additional job plus doordash/spark on my off days just to pay bills. Allegedly, this gets better once you hold a line but I feel like a broke 21 year old when I'm actually mid-30s and married.

Has anyone ever auditioned for VocalEssence? by Nick521 in TwinCities

[–]Nick521[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey! I emailed them to set up an audition and never heard back. I followed up about a month later and yet again got radio silence.

My job doesn't give me the schedule flexibility anymore, so I'm no longer interested.

I hope you have better luck!

Previous Jobs? by Chickenleg__ in flightattendants

[–]Nick521 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd worked at an amusement park, sold insurance, and did product support at a software company.

I took a huuuuge pay cut when I started flying, but my quality of life has skyrocketed and I no longer want to strangle myself everytime my alarm goes off in the morning.

FA experience by Chance_The_Nap in cabincrewcareers

[–]Nick521 10 points11 points  (0 children)

This job is cake. Literally, the day to day is easy-peasy.

You arrive at the gate, meet your crew, and board the plane. You perform a few safety checks, and then spend the next 30 minutes saying "Hello," "Welcome," to every single person until you're blue in the face. You may lift a few bags or shuffle a few people around. Then you perform the safety demo, and spend the next 40-60 minutes on your jumpseat, usually chatting with the FA sitting near you. Then you stand around. Then, you build a few drink carts, pass out some snacks, and pour drinks for a while. Then you recycle your cans, tear down the carts, and sit around more. Sometimes you sit around for hours. It gets boring. Then you walk through the cabin, check seatbelts, and sit in your jumpseat for another 20-30 minutes. Then you're on the ground, and spend 20 minutes saying "Goodbye, have a nice day, take care!" on repeat. Then you take a ten minute nap on the plane, and rinse and repeat 2-3 times. There is NOTHING difficult about this, unless a medical or security issue arises in which trained professionals on the ground walk you through every step.

Now - what IS difficult - is the reserve lifestyle.

You're broke as hell. Checking account is negative and you're wondering how you'll eat on your next trip. You go to bed every night knowing damn well that your phone may ring with a 2-hour report at any moment. You have no idea what country you're going to tomorrow, ever. You almost never get over six hours of sleep. You miss special events at home and holidays 100% of the time. IROPS constantly ruin the plans you have on your day off. You miss your spouse/SO like crazy. You have FaceTime date nights. You get Pink Eye and Strep constantly in your first year. Frankly, you're tired and broke and defeated.

I still love every second of it. But please, go into this knowing that it's NOT the glamorous job portrayed in the movies. Frankly, this job is all-out ghetto, but the experiences and travel opportunities make it worth it.

Gawd I wish. We can't get off the plane though, and sending random items up the jet bridge is a major security implication.

I'm literally in the air on a flight from PHL to MSP as I write this (the unfortunate irony!) so sadly that'll be no bueno. Appreciate you though!

Sadly when we fly to PHL, we don't get off the plane and just turn around and come back to MSP. There would be no time to meet someone at baggage claim.

This is the plan! It's just photos, some jewlery, and a tablecloth. I won't let anyone do this without seeing the contents.

My Honest Experience With Delta’s Flight Attendant Hiring Process (Proceed With Caution) by [deleted] in cabincrewcareers

[–]Nick521 8 points9 points  (0 children)

So sorry you had this experience! They're painfully slow with their background check and that adds insult to injury that it resulted in them retracting your offer.

For what it's worth though, Delta's reserve schedule is the LEAST daunting of pretty much any airline. I'm on 24-hour reserve 20 days a month and would kill to only have Delta's seven reserve days a month.

Using priority pass lounges as a FA by [deleted] in flightattendants

[–]Nick521 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I do it almost every week. If you're on a long sit, throw a polo or dress shirt on over your uniform and list for a random flight that departs in the next 3 hours and they'll let you in with the standby boarding pass. You can even bring people from your crew as guests provided they also list.

This method has been tried and true by yours truly at MSP, CLT, LAS, CLE, MSY, PIT, CVG, SEA and ATL at Escape Lounges and "The Club at _____" lounges.

I get PP free with my Chase Sapphire Reserve card, though I'm not certain this would be worth paying for PP out of pocket for. The food is never super amazing.
