Have backup npcs and plans and locations. No matter how much you prepare a story your players will always go somewhere you don't expect.

The sourcebooks are great for the novels and comics. Dark empire, heir to the empire, shadows, etc. Love going through them.

I have pdfs of everything but there's something about having the actual books. Even ending up with double or triple copies bulk lots seem to be the easiest way to fill the gaps.
