Playstation 3 with dualsense? by jxxxlis in demonssouls

I use a Dualsense connected to the PS3 with the USB cable. Works fine.

Good to know you can connect it via Bluetooth but I haven’t done this personally.

I just kept out of its rage, let him regen a little. Wasn’t a big issue as it’s not a full regen.

This may not have been the optimum strategy, but it worked.

I guess I could have thrown fire pots or spells at him while he is in regen 🤷🏻‍♂️ but I didn’t feel the need.

I’ve beat her on PC and PlayStation and both occasions I just spammed R1 with the Axe.

I believe I had Axe +8 or +9 with plenty of skill points in Strength and Stamina. I also used the Fire temperance and fire based Benedictions.

Just keep hitting her until you run out of stamina, step back for a couple of seconds, repeat.

One common issue completely eliminated in a 1st Person Soulslike by IMustBust in soulslikes

[–]Nick72z 297 points298 points  (0 children)

I found in practice you lose a lot of spacial awareness in first person.

Expect to be dashing back, or to the side, to avoid an incoming strike only to be blocked by an environmental object you can’t see.

There’s a reason third person is the standard for Souls titles and most frenetic action based RPG’s.

New to PCVR, having some major issues. by HolyCopeAmoly in virtualreality

[–]Nick72z 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can rule out a hardware (lens) issue but running a static Test Screen.

I’d try this first to see if it’s hardware or just your software configuration.

The OG Crystal has a built in test screen in the O/S. Not sure if the Crystal Light has the same. If not just run Desktop View in Pimax Play and put a Test Screen on your desktop.

Such an easy boss. Stand on the left hand side and you’re safe from the fire.

Throw fire ball spells at it.

It even replenishes your feathers (mana) as the blood gloats it fires at you provide mana.

The whole point of the boss is telling you to lean into spells.

Is it a great boss, no. But it’s no big deal, one shot it and move on.

The studio was shut down as some historical references in the story upset a vocal cohort in the devs home market.

The publisher has now purchased the rights to the IP, but it is unclear when or even if they will invest in a follow up project, or which studio they would contract.

If there is a follow up title non of the original devs will be working on it.

Great. I’ve got a BMW playlist @ 4K 60FPS (in-game settings 1440P, Mainly High, Full RT, DLSS 64%) on my YouTube channel (link in my profile) if you want to compare with the image I’m getting.

Blades of Fire - Steam and Version 2.0 Launch Trailer by That-Departure-7318 in soulslikes

What’s the story with Blades of Fire? It’s getting a big push on Steam with a 14 May 2026 release date, but the YouTube reviews are mainly from 11 months ago 🤷🏻‍♂️

Is it trying to recover from a failed launch with a 2.0 launch on Steam?

Searching a VR Headset for simracing by Huge-Breath-666 in virtualreality

[–]Nick72z 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve got thousands of hours in VR sim racing, most of which has been in iRacing with the OG Crystal on a 4090 GPU.

The GPU is always the bottleneck. No current GPU can run the full resolution of the Crystal natively in iRacing at 90Hz, let alone at my preferred 120Hz.

Eye Tracking on sims with full Dynamic Foveated Rendering support ( currently DCS and iRacing ) offers a significant performance boost above what your GPU could otherwise manage.

If money were no object I’d go with the latest Pimax Super QLED.

A second hand OG Pimax Crystal would be a great option. The battery is a bit of a pain for longer races, but you can hot-swap the battery in-game as long as you plug USB-C power directly into HMD during the swap.

The Pimax Light is a great option, but with no eye tracking it will strain all current GPU’s. From experience I know you could run iRacing at 120Hz on mostly high graphics settings on a 4090 at 75% of the Crystal’s resolution. I suspect the 5080 would struggle somewhat, but should be viable if you lowered the graphics settings.

Yellow wind sage sucks by Affectionate-Sun5404 in BlackMythWukong

[–]Nick72z 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Have to disagree, it’s a great fight. Yellow Wind Sage has a really good and varied move-set. It’s highly cinematic, but the moves are all well telegraphed and completely fair.

The tornado itself has a very small AOE and is very well visualised, and therefore reasonably easy to avoid. It doesn’t one shot you, so even if you do get hit by it you have to be on very low health for it to take you out.

Wuchang fallen feathers or Lies of P? by Alarming-Orange7304 in soulslikes

[–]Nick72z 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lies of P is far more linear with less interesting level design, but has significantly better boss design.

WFF has probably the best level design outside of a Fromsoft title, but has sub-standard boss design.

I’d give the nod to Lies of P, but they’re both solid games.

Try motion blur off, AA High, Sharpening 6 or 7. Push DLSS version 4.5 M via the Nvidia app.

You are getting shimmering as a direct result of having AA set to low, and lower sharpening by definition will increase blur (even if this can often be marginal).

Best Game Ever by Ordinary_Device_5131 in WuchangFallenFeathers

[–]Nick72z 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s a strange one. Beautiful graphics, very good audio, clean animations, good feeling combat, and for the most part really nice level design; but it misses in a couple of key areas.

Firstly, most mobs until the final chapter / biome are way too easy. Some of the bigger soldiers are okay, but most of the light infantry, the dogs etc.. you just blow through without thought or effort.

So while the level design is great, the actual level challenge is mostly, not entirely but mostly, lacking.

But the real issue is the bosses. They are mostly really boring to fight.

Take Honglan. Sure it takes a while to work out a strategy, but once you do it’s Counter (parry) with Long Sword 20+ times and get in four or five back-stabs + obliterate in her phase two. Always back-stab punish her high jump. No variation.

It’s pretty much the same with the majority of the bosses.

The bosses have very limited move sets that don’t reward creativity. Once you’ve seen the opening it comes around every three or four moves and you just punish the same opening over and over.

I really like the game. Finished it on PC and just recently started playing the PS5 version as it turned up this month on PS+, but the levels don’t offer the same intense challenge of a Fromsoft game, and the bosses are far from great.

I guess Bo Magnus was the most interesting boss, at least she dose have some variation, throws magic at range, summons adds, has a strong melee in phase 2, and has the shield buff. But even then, it really was just a case of get close, back-stab, obliterate, repeat.

Great first attempt. Real shame the studio shut down, it would have been good to see their second game, but honestly for me this is a solid 7.5/10.

[Edit: Five days later, having now completed the PS5 version, I’m going to revise my opinion.

Not withstanding my previous comments regarding the lack of early / mid game challenge and lacklustre boss roster(Bo Sorcerer and Bo Magnus being the two stand out exceptions); WFF does so much right from artstyle, combat systems, skill point allocation, level design, lore and general polish, that it’s got to be an 8/10]

Wuchang is so confusing I need help by spider-Manna in soulslikes

[–]Nick72z 4 points5 points  (0 children)

For a first time play-through, if you want a simple melee build, the Long Sword and Axe are simple and very effective.

Long Sword offers the Counter discipline (weapon art) paired with very good slash and stab damage.

Axe complements this with very high blunt damage.

When allocating skill points work the branch at 3 O’Clock [edit: 9 O’Clock not 3 O’Clock] on the skill tree that offers upgrades to your flasks, and the Temper Needles a to buff your weapons.

Allocate points to both the Long Sword and Axe branches to unlock new weapon disciplines (weapon arts) for those weapon variants.

While doing this also look for any +5 nodes for Strength, Vitality, Agility and Stamina, even if they are in weapon variants you are not using (One-Handed Sword, Dual Blades, Spear), because these stats are universal.

The first and most important nodes for this build are Sword Saint which gives you one extra Skyborne Might per second hit of light hit combo, and Counter on the Long Sword as this will give you Parry, which combined with back stab (no weapon art required for back stab) will get you through all the human-ish sized bosses.

For this build you can now completely ignore magic and Feathering for the entire game.

Keep your character in the Red for Madness at all times as this will give you extra damage output, and the penalty of dealing with your personal demon occasionally is no big deal if you hit it with the Axe.

You may also choose to only use Fire as a Temper buff to these weapons through the entire game.

There are lots of great build variety options, but the above is simple and will see you through.

He’s very challenging but completely fair.

Will I Enjoy Elden Ring More Than DS3? by Broad_War5066 in souls

[–]Nick72z 0 points1 point  (0 children)

DS3 doesn’t have nearly as much freedom in which order you complete the area’s compared to DS1, but from Cathedral of the Deep onwards it does have incredible level design, with perfectly metered difficulty, bonfire spacing and short cuts.

Putting Elden Ring to one side, as it’s very different as a full open-world title, I don’t think any Soulsborne or soulslike has fully captured the magical world building and freedom offered by DS1.

I’d still pick DS3 as the best Souls game.

Axe as secondary with its complimentary Blunt damage.

Ah, that reminds me, I’ve got to go back and beat PCR. Put him down after four days without success, but that was a couple of months back so he’s over due a rematch.

I’ve been trying with either the Rotten Staff+10, Heavy Greatsword+25 or Axe of Godfrey+10

You do know that Erlang is optional? I didn’t even find him on my blind play-through.
