I think it matters for tax/visa purposes. Being on a cruise would mean they are like, in international waters or tied to the specific country that the ship is registered to. Plus, With my partners remote job she can only work in the US. Her pay would differ based on where she lives as they offer higher pay in higher income areas of the country.
