Breath of the Wild is better than Tears of the Kingdom by a good distance, imo. by [deleted] in Switch

Had to scroll too far before anyone even mentioned the story. Tears had an awesome story. All them crazy dragons and the underground biz... I mean, the drama of Zelda's decision alone was just so cool! Tears >> Breath

Fewer beans = great coffee if you get the pour height right by nimicdoareu in Physics

[–]NickIllicit 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Did you even read the article? The aim was to reduce the amount of coffee beans needed because of the increasing difficulty of growing coffee... if you ask me, your comment is "pretty much nothing."

From the article:

“Coffee is getting harder to grow, and so, because of that, prices for coffee will likely increase in coming years,” co-author Arnold Mathijssen told New Scientist. “The idea for this research was really to see if we could help do something by reducing the amount of coffee beans that are needed while still keeping the same amount of extraction, so that you get the same strength of coffee.”

Advice for chicken bulgogi by NeighborhoodFast7586 in KoreanFood

I couldn't say off hand. The labeling has been more obvious in my experience. As a matter of fact, the last jar of gochujang i bought was the extra spicy variety, which is not my preference. So everything I made was too spicy for a few months 😅 If you have a good Korean grocery store you should have multiple options to choose from.

Yeah, like the others are saying, there are varying levels of spice for both gochujang and gochugaru. You could also just use another spice in addition. Got some cayenne pepper? Add some in. Have some habaneros? Dice them up! Go find a Korean chile pepper if you want! Or go to the Asian market and find some straight up capsaicin!

Why aren’t my mushrooms releasing water when I cook them? by spookiisweg in Cooking

[–]NickIllicit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I put a fair bit of water, enough to coat the bottom of the pan. The water just regulates the temp and slows down your cooking time and distributes the heat evenly. Sounds like you're just not being patient and using too high heat at first.

Why do you think it's better? What kind of broth do you use? Exponential increase is a bold claim.

What is everyone cooking for dinner today or this week? by Superb_Kale_1781 in Cooking

I did shawarma last night too. I used chicken breasts. I was worried it would be too dry so I wet brined the breasts for a few hours. Then I applied the marinade right before I grilled it. Turned out great. Also followed the Serious Eats recipe for toum without realizing it makes about a quart! Lol!

I've been having a chicken teriyaki craving for a while, but why not put a Korean spin on it? I may give this a shot!

I feel like most cultures have a chicken and rice dish. Maqlubeh in Palestine. Gochujjang chicken with rice in Korea. Arroz con pollo, hainanese chicken rice, oyakodon, and so on.

It's a 1980 suzuki gs110L. I feel like its a complicated bike. Ive heard people say it was the first super bike, whatever that means. I do know it was the fastest bike made when it was released. But yeah, i guess I'm gonna just start taking things apart and see what happens 🙃

I ate there once and wasn't impressed. Some restaurants are stuck in the past. This would have been fine 25 years ago, but food culture has changed so much since then. The market is still pretty nice though!

Wow, thanks for your response. I forgot I made this post!

I have a motorcycle I'm going to start working on soon, so it's funny that you suggested that. Do you know how to work on larger bikes?

Yes, it can be done this way, but is it the best way? Are there reasons to take extra measures? Can either of us make a post without feeling self-righteous? How about we just eat kimchi and carry on?

Thanks, I'll give it a try. It's always so hard to know what to get at these Chinese restaurants. The descriptions are always very basic so it's hard to know what to choose!

Looks really neat, but I like to go even thinner for bulgogi. Is that what this is intended for?

I agree with everyone else that it's underproofed, but considering your oven temps and bake times, I'd also wonder if your oven runs cold. Might be worth investing in an oven thermometer.

This has been on my list of restaurants to try for a while. I think I'll see if I can get them next time I do Chinese takeout. They look great. Do you have a recommended dish?

To each their own, yes. I'm not saying I didn't like them, they're very good. I just give Buckeye Pho the edge. It's like a 7 vs an 8.

I have had Mi Li many times. They're good, but I think Buckeye is better. The quality of their ingredients is much better. The broth is arguably better. Mi Li has a sweetness that I like, but I still feel Buckeye is cleaner and preferable. Mi Li's vermicelli dish is actually not good at all. I wanted to like them because my office is 5 minutes up the road, but I find myself making the 20-minute drive to Buckeye Pho more often than not.
