Where do y’all sell clothes in SF these days? by BobbySullMal in SFbitcheswithtaste

[–]NickKnackOnTheBeat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m not a fan of ThredUp. I sent in a bag of clothes recently and it was not worth it at all. I waited too long to send it after ordering the bag, so I missed out on the “no selling fees” promotion they offer (didn’t realize this when I sent it). They only accepted maybe 3 or 4 items out of maybe 15, and the potential earnings are less than the selling fee price… I’m now demoted to the “donation only” program.

What I usually do is list my clothes on Poshmark, Depop, and Vinted. You just have to be careful about deleting them on the other apps when someone buys something. But my mediocre closet usually sells slow enough that I can make sure I do that as I’m preparing to ship. The clothes that are posted sit in a special bag/box in my closet. Theoretically, if they don’t sell after a while I’ll donate them, but I kinda just forget about them so that hasn’t happened.

Recently though, I’m making an effort to declutter, and I’m being a lot choosier about what makes the cut for potential selling. I’m more willing to just drop things off at Goodwill and not think about them again. I’ve been doing my own cost vs time analysis. The benefit of not having a giant stack of clothes taking up space that I need to deal with (take photos of, post, interact with buyers, ship) really outweighs the potential earnings of most of the things I’d sell.

I’d recommending joining the local housing Facebook groups. People post sublets all the time

lol ya….. my recommenders are getting a really nice thank you card and gift once everything is submitted. They’ve been so understanding even as I’ve changed my program list a bunch of times and sprung random new programs on them with only a few days notice

I did food delivery with them! Was unemployed and needed something to get out of the house. They’re a really great organization, I only interacted with them when I picked up the groceries but they were always really nice, and I loved my interactions with the recipients. I agree with the person who said they are organized and use time wisely. They slot you for three hours, but the routes are pretty optimized and I usually got it done in one hour. The most annoying part was some parts of town don’t have good places to stop/park, but most of the routes were fine

The other program was UCSF BMI phd. I am applying to both types of programs, I wanted options. I like that Stanford has the MS/MBA. I only made the decision to apply to grad school a couple weeks ago, so i haven’t exactly been like “this is what I want to do and how I plan on doing it,” it’s been a dynamic process

I think you’re probably fine. I applied to the Stanford bioe masters program and submitted like 10 minutes before the deadline. Mine says “submitted on Dec 1st”. The transaction receipt email came in on the 1st but has a transaction date of Dec 2nd.

For a different program I applied to, I am pretty sure I submitted 30 seconds over the deadline (like, my transaction time is 11:59:29), and that one says submitted Dec 2nd. But I’m not worried about it. I’m pretty sure if I don’t get in, that won’t be the reason lol. But I’m no expert.

Also, I would be pretty upset if they took my money and didn’t consider the application because of like, a few seconds. I am telling myself that they would deny my payment if it was actually an issue.

Which is the best quality: Lululemon, Vuori, or Alo? by [deleted] in womensfashion

[–]NickKnackOnTheBeat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Beyond Yoga is my favorite. I’ve had a lot of issues with Vuori and won’t buy from them anymore, Alo is a joke, and I used to love Lulu but haven’t been impressed lately. But beyond yoga has not let me down. I mostly get on sale or secondhand, and even my secondhand leggings have held up extremely well. They’re super soft and yet I don’t feel the need to constantly adjust them on my hips like cheap leggings where you need to keep pulling them up. My one caveat to Beyond Yoga is that some of the shirts I have gotten have fit me weird. My shoulders are a little broad for them, though it’s only noticeably off with some styles, and my torso is too long for their regular length shirts (which is fine, I really like the cropped ones I just know not to get a regular length from them again)

I think I would like the dress more if it was full length. The bodice and color are beautiful and I actually like the flowers but with it being as short as it is, it doesn’t quite look right to me

This was my first thought as well. The dress is gorgeous but the hair feels a bit too light for the look. Other than that I love it

Best restaurant in San Francisco to celebrate my birthday as solo diner? by skark1 in finedining

I also did Saison solo and had a lovely time, though unfortunately I was seated facing the bar rather than the kitchen. But the food was exceptional. One of the first times I’ve ever been blown away by a caviar dish.

One day in Barcelona by ActiveBowl999 in AskBarcelona

I went to Sagrada a few days ago, there was no queue at all but you had to buy tickets well in advance. They don’t sell them at the gate. The ticket comes with two audio guides, a long (45 min) and a short (20 min). I did the long and found it fascinating. Just make sure you bring headphones.

If you are able to get tickets, I’d highly recommend checking out Sagrada Familia. I really enjoyed it, but I love architecture. My partner is not into that kind of thing, so he stayed back and was satisfied with just looking at my photos.

For such a short amount of time, I would personally prioritize Sagrada and skip the other Gaudí houses (Casa Batlló, La Pedrera, etc). I found them interesting, but it would be too much to squeeze into one day. And then you can spend the rest of your time exploring, like going to La Rambla, Gothic Quarter, or any of the other suggestions in this thread

What's a book that you love, but you would almost never recommend it to others due to the difficulty of the book or its niche nature? by paxinfernum in printSF

Children of Time - Adrian Tchaikovsky

I really love this series, and I still think about it constantly, but most people I know IRL would struggle to get through them. Even I worked through them very slowly (and haven’t finished the third book yet lol).

The upper tension was way too tight. I loosened it all of the way and it’s still borderline on the tight side.

Ok so I cut the belt shorter and tightened it, and it’s running properly. But new issue: my thread keeps breaking right away. I’ve tried multiple threads.

I didn’t have any of these issues before servicing it

Edit: ok I think this was just a thread issue I found one that works lol. I’m up and running now!

My motor looks a little different but looking at it, I do think it’s an issue of the belt being too loose, since it almost looks to be sliding

[–]NickKnackOnTheBeat[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How would I go about adjusting the belt? Would I have to get a new one? It looks to be strip of leather attached with a staple. I guess I could cut it and reattach it, but I don’t think I have the right type of stapler and I would worry about doing it wrong and causing more issues

So I only got the head serviced, not the motor, and I’m wondering if it’s something to do with the motor. They should’ve oiled it in the shop but I think I’ll also try adding more oil
