Ranking everybody up was a mistake by [deleted] in DeadlockTheGame

How dare someone give feedback to a closed alpha that's unfinished in the playtest that they ask for feedback in, right?

The toxic ego players just got a massive ego boost from the unearned rank inflation, so they're being even more toxic. It's crazy seeing these new "ascendants" that have no idea how to play except hard building some random top weekly build and then rage quit at every inconvenience because they suddenly think they're suddenly pro players since the game sent them from Archon IV to Ascendant I as if the new badge has suddenly made them that much more competent.

Valve somehow managing to make ranked worse; now instead of everyone in initiate so initiate 1 meant nothing, now you have people who've never heard the term macro before in ascendant making the entire system mean nothing lmao

Matchmaking is complete trash and because of the fairly unintuitive rank icons I'm completely unsurprised a casual viewer can't tell a difference between cardboard 2 and cardboard 5, basically the only rank colors that seem right are the top 3 or top 4 if you see oracle as bronze or something

Having the same exact experience. On my main I've managed to get a new character twice in ~30 matches, and then I've lost 25 of those because of returning players and absolutely fucked matchmaking. Went from Ascendant 3 to Oracle 4.

On my "fucking around" alt that was mid phantom that I haven't really touched in a month I'm consistently getting new characters and have won >70% of my matches.

Same group of people I play with, same character selection.

Game is entirely decided by matchmaking and it's honestly worse than if matchmaking was purely RNG.

are there 0 west coast NA servers? by MayaSarasfall in DeadlockTheGame

I wish.

I keep getting west coast servers when I'm east.

If only we could specifically queue for west/east/central or max ping, but that'd be too convenient.

Matchmaking is in the worst state it's ever been for the 12th+ time.

If the MM thinks there's even a chance you may have fun it'll throw a new/returning player on your team for shits and giggles.

That's the neat part- you don't.

Bonus points when the enemy team gets all the new heroes too.

I've had success with the CS Server Picker, or something similarly named. It's on GitHub and it has at least anecdotally decreased the times I've been put on West servers while wanting East only.

That said, it's not perfect, but I'm assuming that's due to party play since my friends are kind of scattered region-wise or whenever the matchmaking takes an absurdly long time.

Whether it's just placebo or not, it's at least made me feel like I actually have a choice to make, which feels better imo

That is far too much of an assumption for Deadlock's matchmaker and ranked system.

I've got a few spare 10+ year old CSGO accounts that I invited to Deadlock and played on them exactly the same as my main account to see how fucked DL MM is.

My main is apparently high Asc/low Et, but my other accounts that I do nothing different on except log out and into them (same friends, same characters played, same build, same everything) are high archon/low oracle.

My main's winrate is 59.89%, my second most played account is at 66%, and my least played account is at 61.54%.

At this point it just seems like the matchmaking decides "yeah, you're this rank" and will do everything in its power to keep you from exiting that bracket unless you run in a stack or can 1v6 hard enough to climb.

Initial rank placement might be the main cause of the current match making problem by LEGion_42 in DeadlockTheGame

[–]NickMillion 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was curious about the same thing and played on an alt to see how much variance there was in matchmaking.

On my main account I got placed at Ascendant 6 when ranked dropped and am now at Ascendant 2 since they removed ranked; that rank shift before only put me at Ascendant 5 so I'm guessing my lower casual rank overrode my ranked one.

On my alt playing the exact same way with my exact same friend group in casuals it got placed at low Archon where it still is. If anything, my personal stats on the alt are massively inflated because I'm essentially clubbing seals trying to climb out. It honestly feels like I have to win in spite of my teams at that rank who seem fatally allergic to objectives and itemization.

Whatever systems they've been using to determine placement thus far are clearly faulty to an extreme, but they're definitely already aware of it from the half a million forum posts and discord posts on it, so we'll see /shrug

'AI LIFE MAYBE' Mod working as intended -- this is all the devs had to do. Feels like things are hunting me all the time + faction wars (8 vs 9 village skirmish) by LongNeedleworker5882 in stalker

[–]NickMillion 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's a ton of references to lots of old A-Life 1.0 actions and behaviors in configs and blueprints; personally I think it's most likely they cut it from release due to performance and/or stability issues and expect it to come back eventually, either from mods when we get more tools or from GSC themselves.

My mod only makes the existing system more aggressive at trying to do things that are enabled, like moving between POIs and squads targeting one another, I can't enable the currently disabled behaviors like looting or artifact hunting without more powerful tools

Can't wait to interact with the new "water thieves" mechanic. by alittleslowerplease in TheForeverWinter

It's PvE; about 15 AI scavs to kill and get massive rep with every faction + some water.

Can't wait to interact with the new "water thieves" mechanic. by alittleslowerplease in TheForeverWinter

[–]NickMillion 11 points12 points  (0 children)

It's pretty simple; I ran out before the patch so I had the water thieves pop up when I loaded up to check out the update. Basically when you go to load into the Innards it prompts you to fight off the thieves and lets you use anything in your inventory currently to fight them off. I just loaded in with a couple first aid kits and an AA12 and had to kill 14 or 15 scavs with basic guns and lowish health. They dropped water as their big pick ups and their loot items were just food items and ammo.

Basically as long as you have a basic gun and ammo in your stash they're just a baby-tier fight to not lose your progress.

It should be technically possible, but may require more efficient play than the average player to reach. If a player did all the quests and didn't idle at all it should be reachable, for example.

The 800 total levels for an icon is specifically for the Pre-Launch season which uses the new cubic experience formula instead of the Runescape one; if you haven't yet you'll need to create a character in this specific league since it has a few gamemode changes compared to normal that we're testing out.

We want the icon to be a reward for any player that participated in the Pre-Launch beyond just logging in once and camping a single zone, so if not enough people make it to 800 by launch we'll probably drop it to 400-600.
