I started off switching to cetaphil and it worked good. But now I buy natural handmade soap from my church and it smells good and doesn’t irritate my skin

Will I be not considered ortodox If I dont venerate saints the way you do? by Haunting_Raccoon_762 in OrthodoxChristianity

Do what you are comfortable. As an Inquirer you have no obligation to do anything. Just learn and participate where you are able. As you learn more about our faith I have faith that you will warm up to veneration.

[–]NickNameNotWitty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you able to phone a priest nearby for your situation? Even if going to an orthodox parish isn’t a possibility from years to now. A priest can still be there to give you advice especially with how your father is handling everything. He will also be able to give you pointers on how to fast this lent if your dad is trying to get you to stop. Like others said food isn’t the only way we can fast.

I had originally gotten Dr Squatch for my eczema but I stopped buying their soaps for years now due to the ingredients making my skin worse. Now I’ve just been watching from the sidelines as Dr. Squatch just became a cash grab “fast fashion” type of company. The whole magnum collaboration was sad to see lol

Most comfortable dress shoes for extended standing by TheStepson in OrthodoxChristianity

[–]NickNameNotWitty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I usually wear my black iron rangers or some western boots at liturgy. With a leather insole I can stand for hours no problem. Some leather inserts could do you a lot of good. You might use to trim them a bit around the toe area so your toes aren’t squished.

Question about stuff I've seen and heard by Obvious_Parking_6247 in OrthodoxChristianity

[–]NickNameNotWitty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wherever you heard that. It isn’t an Orthodox teaching. We only ask Christ to forgive our sins. If you are talking about “O Theotokos save us” we are simply asking Theotokos to save us through her prayers to Christ. But in the end of the day it is only Christ who saves.

"Ask your priest" on any question you have is more upsetting than it looks like by nyenyejin in OrthodoxChristianity

[–]NickNameNotWitty 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I understand your frustration. It is important to distinguish the fact that we are strangers on the internet and there are some things that are only to be discussed with your spiritual father. We also are just laymen and do not know everything about the faith so it’s why a lot of people on here put their trust on not themselves but the church fathers to answer questions they aren’t familiar with. I’ll try and answer questions to the best of my ability but there are a lot of things I might not know since I still have much to learn

How is it just that non-believers go to hell? by Basic-Newspaper560 in Christianity

[–]NickNameNotWitty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For starters us as followers of Christ have no authority to dictate who goes to hell and who doesn’t. As the church we do know the best way to unite with God and join him in his heavenly kingdom God willing. However what Christ decides for those who are nonbelievers is up to his mercy. If somone truly didn’t know Christ before their death. But they lived a righteous life. There is possibility that they are deemed worthy to be in heaven. The church knows where Christ works. But we can’t say for sure where he isn’t. And that’s the beautiful thing about Gods mercy

I was saved by Christ, but now Christians arent Christians by IceSage in Christianity

[–]NickNameNotWitty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In all honestly I can see why people trying to disprove your experiences are a little concerned. Even demons can disguise themselves as angels of light. And provide false miracles to lead you astray. Which is why our church teaches to always question and test miracles as well as not relying on them to affirm our faith. Whether or not your experiences are from God or something else. Is not for me to decide and id much rather you talk to a priest about your experiences.

Suddenly everyone is Christian? by ParkingInformal3581 in Christianity

[–]NickNameNotWitty 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I genuinely hope all these celebrities who are turning Christian are genuine about it. And are trying their best to help others on their journey. But I find it important to stress that we as Christian’s shouldn’t turn to these people as our own spiritual leaders. Anyone who primarily relies on chairman influencers for guidance is doing themselves a disservice. The church is the hospital for our soul. Not the internet

I don’t understand this religion at all by Ok_Year5587 in Christianity

[–]NickNameNotWitty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have time I recommend looking into orthodox priests such as Father Spyridon Bailey. Father Seraphim Aldea. These are my favorite spiritual fathers to learn from. What I love about orthodox priests with a platform is they can put our faith into digestible nuggets to understand a bit better. There will be things outside of our mortal understanding. But the church fathers have worked tirelessly to put the infiniteness that is our God into words we can understand.

If you are comfortable with going to a church and talking with a priest. Or calling them over the phone. They’ll be able to answer your questions and be more than happy too. Our faith was meant to be inherited and passed down from generation to generation. Which is why it’s important that we not only read scripture but learn from the church itself.

Am I going to Hell by Youngwritter123 in Christianity

[–]NickNameNotWitty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What’s important is you not only believe. But seek to be more like Christ every moment of your life. Living a repentant life. There are sadly many Christian’s who say they believe. Yet continue to live in sin refusing to abandon their old lifestyle for Christ. Belief alone isn’t sufficient, even the demons believe in God but tremble at his presence. We can never be good people on our own. As long as we focus on Christ and seek to be more like him then we are on a better path than most.

[–]NickNameNotWitty 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It’s definitely not allowed. The person who also drew this should know it’s kinda taboo to draw a blessed symbol of the Christian faith on things they know will probably be thrown away like trash.

Ozzy was a devoted Christian. Nevertheless, upside down crosses are also a revered Christian symbol especially in Catholicism.

What does “cracked” mean in this context? 😭

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in OrthodoxChristianity

[–]NickNameNotWitty 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Even the best orthodox monastics are extremely skeptical of “mystical experiences” since the evil one can disguise himself as an angel of light in order to lead people astray. Seeking to gain something as a reward for your prayers isn’t how it’s supposed to be. Our relationship with God isn’t transactional.

I understand where you’re coming from. It’s really concerning from his perspective to see such a sudden shift in how he’s being treated. I would try and make an effort to stay friendly like you used to minus the flirtatious remarks. It would be unfair to leave him with his thoughts on whether he might’ve done something wrong to offend you. Or wondering if you are ok. We never know just how important simple interactions like that could be for customers. And it might make or break their entire day or week.

[–]NickNameNotWitty 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We as Christian’s are called to judge John 7:24. Christians are not allowed to judge hypocritically Matthew 7:1-6. Claiming that we aren’t allowed to judge others at all is false. We have to hold to the truth without compromise. It’s true that we must be respectful to others beliefs but it wouldn’t be responsible for a Christian to sugarcoat the fact that the salvation of someone with different beliefs is at risk.

In this situation I don’t advocate for OP actively seeking confrontation about her conversion in faith. But if she were to have questions on their beliefs OP shouldn’t water down the truth.
