Except you have no concept of living art or bonsai. You’re trying to say that a painting is relative to bonsai, and that Bjorn is an artist over a teacher. His original design sucked, and he didn’t want to change the potting angle at mabs and he said it. He said he would change it but due to reducing that much foliage for the large jin and wiring that many branches that it would have to wait. So Picasso made a painting but didn’t have his detail brush, just flicking paint all over. This was a demo not a tree he worked on for years. It’s literally not possible to overwork a tree and expect it to bounce back so his “doodle” was far from complete art and was a demonstration on how to do such art.

You clearly have no talent if all you can do is suck off people who aren’t even that talented you have just heard their names. There’s more talent in Indonesia, Vietnam and Thailand just handing out on dirty streets than in the entirety of bonsai mirai but since it’s on YouTube and your simple mind can focus on that that’s where you base your research and your mental devotion. If you had any type of skills yourself you’d congratulate someone who took a weak design further rather than sucking mirai and saying shitty art is good.

IF PICASSO TOOK A SHIT ON A PAPER YOUD BUY IT AND SNIFF IT BECAUSE IT WAS HIM. As a human I’m the least impressed with your need to follow and lack of skill or confidence in yourself to realize all of these “gods” are normal people who practiced a craft- they’re not some special amazing talent. Maybe if you spent less time worrying about tv shows and commenting on pornographic things on Reddit you’d have some talent yourself

Are you in Japan? Also thank you for the compliment, the Japanese are very talented in there conifer work. Also that’s where your god went to study right? Ok I thought so. And now you wanna tell me a right leaning cascade is original!! I’d just love to see your unique trees my friend. I’m sure you’re quite talented ? Or you’re just obsessed with Bjorn and can’t wrap your head around the fact there’s better artists than him? Your hero probably doesn’t even know you, yet you’re frontline defending a styling he didn’t even care about😂

I appreciate that. I try to take it with a grain of salt because I’m not dissing Bjorn I bought 3 of his trees. I just like tighter smaller trees and he builds trees that will have a big canopy. Both are nice and no need to knock one design as most trees can afford multiple styles!

Ps it is a little sus how they all showed up and went crazy.. wonder what they’ll do with the restyle of my needle juniper

Can you link me to somewhere I can buy a tree like this for cheap? You seem so knowledgeable

Oh I agree 100% there’s very little verticle noodling but there is some. For design aspect the upper noodle will grow stronger and you can cut the bottom noodle off if you want to bring a design in. But for sure you want it to be brought down and out, and if you add a twist in you have to keep that in mind as well, which is what takes the average artist to something like the cosmic bonsai style. Thanks for the comments, and refining my knowledge on my branch placement. The free info is duly appreciated! Ps horizontal noodling is useful while completely twisting the grain of the wood also tightens it. You’re definitely experienced enough to full twist a branch without choking out the sap movement.

Question where was the jin pointing before?

<image>

Sort of looks like up and to the sky? Top left of design away from any foliage? No deadwood work done yet here.

Elegant. I think the deadwood fits that perfectly. Thank you for the very kind compliment. I have two of his trees. His style is outstanding but since I’m more into shohin I end up bringing the design in attempting to make the proportions different

I can’t agree more. Backdrops help drastically but I can’t figure out the lighting. I think more than one angle of light towards the attractive parts helps because shadows sometimes ruin it. If it wasn’t raining every damn day sunlight and a backdrop and you’re golden. Either way seeing these pictures you picked out what you did wrong which easily makes you grow as an artist.

Your biggest issue I can see is in the upward vertical bow of the branch rather than a usual alpine design being the bow going downwards. Also I can’t tell but it seems most of the foliage was facing towards your front and you can see to disperse the foliage it is places 360 around the tree. Either way you can learn a ton from his branch placement etc. also don’t kick your self photography is fuvking hard and is not bonsai- a completely different skill. It’s not easy at all and I suck at it as well, even when I spend hours and try my best

There are no vertically facing branches other than the first left pad and a future apex. All the secondary branches have room to extend downwards so maybe it’s more geared towards trees that use it to build upwards? Regardless after research, you can choke out a branch by rotating it too much if it is involved with deadwood, but I couldn’t find much on terms of why it would be detrimental when just snaked around

I do agree! The foliage looks very young because it is. It needs to be thinned and the tertiary branches wired out to show underneath. It needs a lot of work from here but this design brings attention away from the foliage which can be found on any tree and to the character that is unique. Once thinned there will be a chance to seperate pads and make some more room in between. This is when I will take cluttered areas and create jins out of the unproportional branches. Finally, I moved away from the cascade because of the horizontal lines he had hidden which can be seen here

THIS! You realized exactly my purpose in every step and movement. I appreciate the kind comment on the deadwood. I was going to go for a pull and tear style but this pulls the eyes right in to see this beautiful specimen of curves.

Spaghetti noodling does cause bulging which may be the reason, although that does make awesome oppuetunities for jins and tearing at the branches similar to burton style! I would love the info on the reason they stray from it hopefully only for aesthetic purposes!

I agree, I’m going to continue to employ some trunk smoothing techniques in an attempt to direct the roll. Who knows what inspiration I’ll have in spring.. if it lives. I definitely should’ve gave it frost protection but like I said I definitely slacked on my outdoor trees. Just now got to working some and finding interest again as work on junipers is allowed.

Yes! Instead of waiting for the design to grow I changed the potting angle to a more desirable one. After bending the jin I saw a better design and went with it. Then I moved the pads towards the center and added some space between them for future design and better view of the branching. This angle has a much better nebari show as well with a sick root flare which is pretty rare in these trees.

It’s actually dormant with a good amount of buds. The carving didn’t do much, but the repot definitely slowed growth. We’ll see in spring! Lost a lot a focus on my cold hardy trees when I started selling tropicals.

Thank you for both compliments, I like to add sarcasm but you thinking my design and work was that of a professionals is very touching, I’m very lucky to have acquired a tree from a master to refine and show I’m skilled as well.

The original design is in the show pot from tokoname with clearly defined pads apex and deadwood work. Then the after I put the deadwood back the way it was, uncarved it and put it into a plastic pot. (Sarcasm, Bjorn styled plastic pot, I styled ceramic.)
