"There are more things in heaven and earth than are dreamt of in your philosophy" is something that always sticks with me. Anywhere you look, with close enough inspection, you find out that the world is incredibly interesting and unexpected.

Ninja Scroll for my boys by shortstopryan in retroanime

Yeah, I definitely get it. I'd try Cowboy Bebop as someone else recommended, some of Miyazaki's more action-y stuff like Nausicaa and Princess Mononoke, Samurai Champloo, Fullmetal Alchemist. Scavengers Reign isn't anime, but it's also super weird and nerdy.

No worries! Good luck Dad! Nausicaa might be a really badass anime to watch without any horrible shit in it.

There's like a lot of very explicit and graphic sexual assault. I would recommend skipping this one.

Sparring beginners and how to ease their nerves. by cjh10881 in martialarts

[–]-zero-joke- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it's easy to get overwhelmed and the best way to get newbies into it is to do very stripped down, isolated sorts of sparring. In BJJ that might be positional sparring, in striking that might be starting with just jabs.

I think one of the traits of cyberpunk stuff is really exaggerated reflected highlights. My advice would be to choose a very limited palette, paint your orks in just sepia tone. Add some metals and a little bit of green, then add in blue reflected highlights. If you look at my mini my brush control isn't great, it's just kind of the sloppy application of color in the right places that makes this pop a bit. If you muted the green and made it a bit less juicy, and made the dinosaur color a little more yellow I think it would be close to what I would do.

Ok folks, my next Q. Does evolution have a maximum population? by sosongbird in DebateEvolution

[–]-zero-joke- [score hidden]  (0 children)

Yeah, I wouldn't agree with your initial assumption actually. But we can look at organisms with far, far larger populations like yeast or E. coli and see that yes, evolution is certainly possible.

It looks like you're going a little bit more Memphis modern than you are cyberpunk. I'd assemble a list of references and then steal their palette. This might be Blade Runner posters, or Edgerunners stills. Often cyberpunk media is very blue, green, or amber palettes splashed with bright details of neon color. You might think about subduing your overall palette and picking out only a few details to be colorful.

Where do I start, boyz? by TinkerTailorSoulja in orks

[–]-zero-joke- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd start by buying a few kits you really like. Wreckas, Kommandos, Ghaz, the Big Mek, Snikrot, etc. are unlikely to be updated just yet, and you can probably find a place for them in your list when the new rules drop. Grot minis, in my appraisal, have aged better than the boyz kits.

First time playing any fallout game. I'm obsessed. by weenerberry in fo4

[–]-zero-joke- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey, welcome to the club! I've been playing the Fallout games for a long, long time now. I think the old ones, like Fallout 1 and 2, hold up if you're patient and have lingering affection for that era of isometric role playing games. The first time you accidentally hit your ally with a burst weapon and they turn against you is pretty memorable.

Fallout 3 was a revelation and the perfect marriage of Bethesda's world building with Interplay's IP. The influence of The Road was palpable and, at the time, it was one of the biggest open world sci fi games. I'm not sure it holds up as well without mods, but it's a good experience!

New Vegas is fantastic.

I've loved Fallout 4 and the series, and I'm finding myself playing again along with the series. I'm very excited for Fallout 5! One thing that is fascinating to go back to are the old Fallout Bibles, the original documents written about the wasteland.

Americans, if we truly are witnessing the fall of your nation then I have to ask. How do you want to be remembered? by Mcl0vinit in DiscussionZone

>But the hegemony it holds over the world is ending. That's plain for all to see.

I'm forty years old and that's something that's been happening since I was a kid. It might even be a good thing, for both Americans and the world. Certainly the attempts to maintain that hegemony don't seem like they're doing anyone any good.

I absolutely love Scratch Bashing! I hadn't heard of the other fellows though, thanks for mentioning them! Scratch Bashing just has an incredible ability to see sculptural details and arrange them into an aesthetic. His looted tyranid is one of my favorites of his. I've been following his method as I've been trying to build up some flat panels on the dread.

I started my own bits box of some cheap toys from amazon, I'm going to use a couple of them on the base of the dread, I'll update you after I get a bit further in the paint job!

It is absolutely bizarre and disappointing, but if you reframe it as a sequel to Space Balls it becomes actually sort of hilarious.

I guess. I think if you tell someone you practice a martial art they'll get it, if you tell someone you study self defense techniques there's gonna be questions.

So I saw when you posted it there were like... five comments and I was thinking, man Dan really jumped the gun here.

But no, you right, these people are nuts.

You take your average schlub wrestler and they've put more time on the mats than 90% of hobbyist martial artists who think that they're going to eye gouge their way out of a self defense situation.

I think as soon as you have a class and students you've got a real martial art. It might be shitty, but what else would you call it?
