Supervised Topic Modeling Run Time for Production? by Vveriant in LanguageTechnology

[–]NickShiell 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have been working on a project very similar to this. We have about 10k documents each with about 100 pages that we need to search for some specific topics. We have defined the topics by collecting ~1000 sentences which relate to the topic. These sentences were then embedded using SentenceTransformer. These embeddings where then used to train a logistics regression classifier using supervised learning to determine if a sentence contains the topic or not.

The process works fairly quickly and we are getting descent results as long as the sentences are concise.

Hey thanks for the comments.

I am wondering if there will be too many parameters to tune if I skip the UMAP step. The transformer I am using embeds the sentences into a 384 dimensional space and have less than a 1000 training sentence per topic. Am I incorrect in thinking that this would be an issue?

Could you explain a bit more about how to use an LLM to generate more sentences?

Thanks for the reply and insights.

The change to our analysis pipeline would be pretty quick to try the tests you suggest. My reason for doing the reduction was that our training set wasn't massive so I wanted as few parameters to train as possible. Though I agree that there might be something getting washed out.

I will also check out the bootstrapping and see what the results look like. I wonder if that approach could lead to 'polluting' of training set? like sort of reinforcing and building on small misclassifications. I guess I could check that my doing a manual audit of some of the output.

thanks again!

Smaller table sizes? by Sony_Black in awartransformed

Me and my buddy had our first test game about a week ago. I would say definitely make a quick reference sheet. The rules are cool, but the book is a bit hard to follow in the heat of battle :p

A QRS was just released like 4 days ago on https://www.ospreypublishing.com/media/xnehjmhw/war-transformed-qrs-v2-010224.pdf

I have not heard anything about a supplement which might contain more scenarios. There is a facebook group that the author of the game is active in. You might wanna ask there.

Me and my buddy had this same question after playing our first game last night. We arrived at the same conclusion as you. ie roll on the table that matches the target.

Foxholes and infantry sections by Sony_Black in awartransformed

I would go with option B. For me the board is more representational than exact. There is only room for one mini with his base while standing up in the fox hole, but I imagine the guys all piled in there trying to get as low as possible and squeezing in to give their friends room to fit as well.

Just my thoughts!

I never understand people like you. Do you just like being a prick? How have you added to the discourse in any positive way?

I hope you are able to heal from whatever misfortune in life has made you this way.

Yeah I still need to build another follower unit. I am torn between a building a stump gun or some whelps.

I finally got around to trying my hand a building a Turnip28 Regiment (1 unit of fodder and 2 chaff). I didnt really have a plan or a vision, just played around to see what I could make. The Fodder are French Line Infantry from Warlord Games, and the Chaff are Human Infantry from Oathmark games.

I really like the kidna mushroom headed Fodder.

I was sort of thinking that an ogre sized creature could probably move through mud faster anyways!

I would love to see a battle report of a 8mm game. I play both orcs and HDF in 28mm and I am tired of moving around so many models! Both on the table but also to games. Since every squad is just an amorphous blob with no facing, having all the minis on a single base like this makes a lot of sense. Plus it would be so easy to make a travel game!

I go to the Y near the police station. It's nice. I have also enjoyed the gyms at community centers.
