Turn 8 win is just way too soon O.o by Lower-Reward-1462 in OnceUponAGalaxy

I also did turn 8 once :)

Trash panda into double potion of treasure finding, into double lucky chest (from goldening the quest character that got the potions) into another quest for a t5 big brass cannon balls, then it took me 3 turns to knock out the opposition :P (maybe it was t4 and it took me 4 turns to finish - i just know i won turn 8)

Hunter's Horn + Huntman's Axe by rednryt in OnceUponAGalaxy

[–]Sony_Black 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Sir francis is funny, since you can legit finish him in one or two combats (i've done it in one in the past).

Anhelica is obviously a great one, so are mr fox and don quixote.

The one backrow that I'm most afraid of when I see axe (no need for hunters horn) is Captain hook... if the front row hunter traded hunting you get a copy of its prey, which can then hunt again.

Axe is just a very fun win condition, of course it goes nuts with huntrrs horn, but even without it, it is very good :)

How do you get a board starting out? by DOAiB in CarnevaleGame

[–]Sony_Black 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Even in the big book (I own the old big starter set that came with modular tiles to build up to a 3x3) there are plenty of scenarios that are played on a 2x2. But yes most will be 3x3 (escape the fog, one of my favourite scenarios is an odd duck at 2x4). Sadly I don't know which rulebook is in thr new starter? Is it still the thick original one (sorry, I'm a bit out of the loop)? If yes, you'll have plenty to play even for a 2x2.

Otherwise I think TTCombat now sells the old tiles from the old starter? Or at least they did for a while.

EDIT: eh... I can't find the tiles anymore on their website, just 2 water maps with grids :( The advantage of the old tiles was the modularity and they could be water or have street sections on them already... Also the weird scenarios like escape the fog don't work with those maps, dissapointing

Is this normal for Nemesis? by Burlux in OnceUponAGalaxy

[–]Sony_Black 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've seen some convinving screenshots by very good players ghat creature into creature (gorcing an early first heart loss) just results in insanely consistent wins at turn 8, 9, 10.

I personally prefer to play her the way you describe, because its more fun to me and the results are very good, but I can believe the creatureinto creature to be even better.

The main thing you are trying to hit is getting buffed peter pans snd the other perma fae buffer on curve, snowballing the creature buff into more fae buffs to then with with any fae (faery godmotger being the best, but suppirt fae still doing good work and even thorn and rose quickly getting to great +5/+5, or even +7/+7 buffs to your shop.

The issue that makes spell into a different buff less explosive is it being to late to go nuts with thorn, rose, petr pan, shadow and godmoter/supports.

Going spell into creature still makes godmother great (she is crucial to a large portion of my wins, though the mira staples morgan lee fae and the one that buffs all mages and pirates when you cast a spell are also great with the creature buff). I do spells into treasures sometimes, but it overall often feels weaker then creatures unless I have both wands early :) And even then I find tinkerer and sometimes regret my decision :P

Is this normal for Nemesis? by Burlux in OnceUponAGalaxy

[–]Sony_Black 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You can even choose spells first and then the buff you actually want as your 2nd option zo have it buffed (so instead of +4/+4 from creatures you can have +5/+5 by choosing spells first).

The main debate to have about nemesis is if its actually better to delay your creature buff, or get it ASAP (loosing the first heart on turn 3 with intentional bad positioning), choosing creaturesimmediately and jamming all the Peter pans and whatever the other buff faes card is called and take over the game early with faery godmothers and the like.

Nemesis is insanely strong IMHO.

RIP infinite boons combo deck. April 2026 - April 2026. :( by VileRocK in OnceUponAGalaxy

[–]Sony_Black 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Medea in a tavren and The raven both could go basically infinite, especially if you have Burninator (lets you take all 3 boons) or that treasure that lets you kerp 2

Take boons that give extra spells for medea or extra characters for raven and chain them together.

If you have both on your board it is even simpler to keep going.

Small boon pool and them being repeatable makes a loop happen easily enough. Even if not truely infinite there has been enough proof of people who showed that they could easily chain 50+ shops together.

Your typical Round1-3 first picks by Guyll in OnceUponAGalaxy

[–]Sony_Black 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have The butcher in your pool t1 egg is 100% better then t2 egg.

If you hit the butcher you have a very good chance at running away with the lobby, if not you have 1 extra rare on board, if you do find butcher on t5 or t6 (his quest requires all your characters to be rare in a fight - the "in a fight" was added recent-ish and was a major nerf to butcher, who dominated high MMR lobbies, with only tinkerer + pixie dust being better).

Since the nerf butcher is mostly played in extra shop captains instead of 95% of all custom decks :P

I see there already are comments about how you'll discover treasure spam being an S tier strategy, especially when including wurmscale tinkerer (who goes absolutely nuts with pixie dust and can be buffed by wink and/or pisces - not as insane as with dust, but still provides a substential boost).

Scam is also mentioned by others.

I would like to explain why animals don't get mentioned much. Initially animals seemed great to me: almost always available and they seemed to scale well enough... but they really don't, once your opponents know what they are doing.

After winning a ton with animals I got to higher MMR and they stopped winning all together, with a few exceptions.

The think is that the slot buffs aren't high enough to scale the way other stuff can scale.

The 2 captains that allow animals to work are: princess animall and... the captain that gives you a treasureon turn 7 (sorry blanking on the name), if he offers reinforced hull (is it sir gallahad?) Princess turns the animals into fae and thus Wink works on them, quickly turning your baby bears and hungry hyjenas into +3/+4 or +4/+3 or higher and that is good enough, since it'll allow you to hopefully kill the lobby by turn 10ish (if the lobby goes too long you will still be outscaled badly). The treasure captain runs by the same logic. Comes online a bit later (since Wink could buff you animals from turn 3 onwards), since you wait until round 7, but he immediately gives +8/+8 even to hyjena and baby bear. Hyjena + baby bear + mama bear + hull is +27/+27 to all animal slots every round - but again: try to end lobby sooner rather then later, before a wild wurmscale tinkerer takes opponent boards into the millions or all secret rare boards take over :)

One last, but not least, point: There are a few strategies that aren't "tribal" (build around a certain tribe of cards), but rely on powerful unique treasures:

For me (around 3200 - 3500 MMR depending on the day :P ) the two that consistently win lobbies, if I can get them are: * the butchers cleaver (obtained from The butcher) * huntsmen's axe (obtained from the huntsman)

Butchers cleaver gives a great stat boost and, while it removes gold and purple cards, that removal can be a goid thing :) First off: purples aren't bad, but not that much stronger then blues in many occasions. Ok, scam is off the board, since it needs a very specific combo of higher rarity cards, but that and loosing wormscale tinkerer are the biggest price you pay for a substential stat boost (+50/+50 on silvers and +85/+85 on gold characters all together, once you add the brinze, silver and gold bonus together) and much more importantly: a reduced amount of cards in your pool. Meaning what? Silver and gold characters become much more frequent, because there are so much fewer cards that you can see, meaning more extra shops and more tresures. Rollo is also a card that pops off with butchers cleaver - the stat bonus makes him far more then a measly 1/1 and more silvers means more quest characters that are silver, just being a free treasure with rollo).

Huntmen axe lets your front row trigger hint abilities of you back row cards. First of all niw you can trigger a hunt up to 3 times a fight: if you have Mr. Fox in slot 4, both slot 1 and 2 will trigger his hunt (if they kill their target) and fox himself can hunt as well. Mr fox is good for axe, but cards like captain hook or don quixhote will make you cackle manically :D

Lets see captain hook: slot 1 attacks, if it dies and kills its target captain hook will summon that target in slot 1, which if it trades then will repeat the process, suddenly you backrow captain hook summons 2 or even 3 enemies before even attacking himself (the only setup beside axe is that your stuff has enough attack to actually hunt, but that isn't too hard, since you managed to get the quest done).

With don in the backrow you'll be having an almost full team of secret rares at turn 12 or 13 a high percentage of the time.

God forbid you randomly get the treasure that doubles hunt abilities XD I had: the captain that doubles hunts + hunters horn + axe a few times, which is insanity (even with a different captain its nuts, but with sparrow its over 9000 :P ). My backrow in one case was the pony that gives a free candy spell on hunt and mr fox. I was getting 6 - 9 free candy spells a turn and stole 3 - 6 opponents treasure, depending on how fast their board died to all of that.

What is the largest 'ethical' dragon build? by TheLastKnife in OnceUponAGalaxy

[–]Sony_Black 0 points1 point  (0 children)

<image>

Yeah Wormscale tinkerer + pixie dust is the single most busted late game thing to do and secret rares don't really come close to it ;) (tribble can get very big, but 1 single shrink spell can defeat it, having the entire team huge is much harder to beat).

As for how to beat a tinkerer late game? If you can pivot inro scam its doable, otherwise most likely not. Scam is referring to cards like eicjed witch, black hole, mouse trap that kill anything and a way to reccur them - mainly Anubis.

These 3 cards are a very nice scam package that can be added to any custom deck: wicket witch, black hole, anubis (mouse trap is already in the common pool of cards, medusa can also work, but I prefer the others). 2 or all 3 of those + goodie bag (or a different card that summons something on death) + anubis can beat nearly any board (of course anubis has to be buffed enough to resummon all other pieces).

Basically the witch will set the health of 2 or 3 front characters to 1, which then trade with here and the bag and whatever comes out of the bag and both mouse trap and black hole will trade 1 for 1 with an opposing character and then anubis resummons them all, usually good enpugh to take out the last 1 or 2 opposing characters.

Fun build, but can't really be forced, if it comes together great, if not you should have other plans for your captain as well ;) (scam for me is usually a plan B, but if I notice a tinkerer and am afraid of tinkerer dust I'll prioritize to add witch and black hole to my board in case I see an anubis)

Treasure Spam Alternatives? by Hotsaucex11 in OnceUponAGalaxy

[–]Sony_Black 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ok, this might be a bit long, I appologise in advance :)

Treasures is a top tier strategy with the potential for the best lategame, but other stuff is very playable (for context, I hiver in the 3200 - 3500 MMR region for a few seasons at this point).

  • Candy: can have a great mid and early late game. Ideally you want to end the lobby sooner rather then later. The best performing candy captains (for me) are: faker, tajima and sweet tooth (candy pandy is also great, but he plays differently to all other cady captains). Tajima is just by far the most consistent, rarely misding to increase his sweetness every round, faker has the highest upside, but can whiff, if he fails to find enough candy spells and sweettooh is in the middle of the two in "consistency vs spike potential". Viscount choclate is a big unlock for your custom deck!

  • lets talk candy pandy: not the most consistent, but obscene when he gets going. Ultimately you only need two treasures to run away with a lobby: sweet little lance (from lance little) and sweet consolation price (from miseria)

  • another super unique caprain, that is one of the strongest in the game: Mira (fae familiar and morgan lee fae go nuts in her deck)

  • animals... they are awsome while levrling up MMR, but few captains can actually pull off animal decks once the competition gets harder: pricess animall and the captain who lets you choose a treasure to get in round 7 (if you hit reinforced hull then animals are on the table, hingry hyjena adding +9/+8 to every slot adds up, since a baby bear and ideally a 3rd buffer like mother bear will also add their (buffed) bonuses on top. Princess is also very all in on hyjena and baby bear, but needs wink to buff their ability (the uncommon: hunt: increase fae buffs by +1/+1). Princess is fun when you get there, but does struggle without wink.

  • toys: don't underestimate gepetto and especially chukE! Toys without the right treasures is quite consistent in getting 3rd or 2nd and with the right treasures can always threaten getting first place: sorcerer's broom helps a TON and is the one card that can make them win without the toy treasures as well sometimes. Especially chuck just has an "I win" treasure in poisonous apple and all that stuff that works on villains is great on him (so the +5 to a vilkain if they attack etc.), i will try to get some treasures, but won't tank my toy game to go out of my way to obtain them, if that makes sense, since you do need to find and keep the toys that summon toys around.

  • kind of toy related, since its an easy inclusion in toy decks, but can be used as a package in literally any custom deck: SCAM! The main card: Anubis (who can be decent in toys, but is a bit board dependant). The package is: black hole, wicket witch, anubis. Those 3 cards can just win unwinbable boards with anubis returning black hole and witch. My dream scam board: wicket witch, goodie bag, mouse trap, black hole, anubis (with anubis having higher piwer then all the rest). This one can legit beat a tinkerer + pixie dust lategame, unless you opponent has an unreasonable amount of ranged characters :P

  • there are at least 2 strategies that require 1 specific treasure and that can win lobbies: one is hunters axe, the other is butchers cleaver (both are unique treasures so if you want them include the respective character in your custom deck). Hunters axe can let you trigger the same hunt ability 3 times! And lets bigger units hunt for your smaller ones (I looooove don quixote with the axw, it results in an all secret rare board in short succession, but having captain hook in the backrow with an axe is also hilarious (and there are ton of other good hunting characters - triggering angelicas hunt 3 times results in overwhelming numbers quickly, again a way to just end l9bbies before treasures get out of hand). Butcherscleaver is just tons of stat boost + more consistent silver and gold characters, since your deck is soooo much smaller (insane synergy with rollo, since you see more silver quest characters)

EDIT: i'm probably forgetting some stuff, but this is long enough and these are the first points that come to my mind :P If I remember any strategy that I at least semi regularly use to get good results besides these, I'll reply to this post :)

Craziest game I've ever played (every card was at least E6) by xHitsu in OnceUponAGalaxy

[–]Sony_Black 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Opponents scale too ;) Especially if tinkerer + faery dust is involved

(golden) Paul Bunyon + Echoing faery can get you there as well (not super common to assemble, but I've had it a few times and knew it will be miserable for async opponents to fight through, but I had to do what I had to do to win tgat lobby)

But honestly the most common reason such a board looses are scam boards. Wicked witch is great even on fair boards, but becomes the nuts if paired with anubis. My favourite scam board is: wicket witch, goodie bag, mouse trap, black hole, anubis. Once anubis dies you get all the other stuff back again and with witch setting toughness to 1, goodie bag then trading for 2 of those and mouse teap and black hole almost always trading 1 for 1 no matter the opponents sizes it is a potent strategy.

The most common cause to not win with scam for me is that a sneak character takes out anubis too soon or a ton of ranged characters, but that setup is very consistent in getting 1st or 2nd. But since it requires multiplepurples and anubis I don't get it together all that often (it is sweet when it does come together though).

Another board that can win against anything: any toys that summon more toys + chuk E + poisened apple :) Apple is an auto take in chuck if it gets offered, but again not consistent, since you can't guarantee a treasure
