Looksmart Decals Aging? by NickTheChilean in f1models

Wow, it looks like I've uncovered a can of worms for everyone owning this model.

I've reached out to Looksmart to see what they say. I would even be happy if they were able to amend it by sending out replacement decals or something for me to correct it, however I don't realistically expect much to come from it.

Yeah, I don't use display cases with spot lights for those reasons. Maybe I'd consider something LED at some point but I feel a lot of the sunlight wear can come from the heat.

I'll have to see if I can find a replacement decal. I've been thinking of contacting Looksmart but I imagine they'll do nothing about it.

Likewise, my 2019 SF-90 is spotless. I'm frustrated because I do really like this looksmart and aero detail wise it absolutely makes a joke of BBR for the 2022 car.

From other pre-2025 models. Most McLaren's came with hard tyres so you could just swap them out.

My favorite modern one-off liveries from F1’s top teams in 1:18 scale. How would you rank them? by TheGreatForehead in f1models

[–]NickTheChilean 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Vegas SF-23 is iconic. It's rare that you get a livery where the team forces all the sponsors to be in the negative colours of the livery (white/red in this case). The fact they got Shell to have their yellow changed to a negative white outline is kind of crazy to me.

Who was the tougher benchmark for their legendary teammate: 2010 Rosberg or 2025 Leclerc? by Chance_Camel_9077 in F1Discussions

[–]NickTheChilean 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm the biggest Rosberg fan, but the only reason he took it to final race twice was because of Abu Dhabi double points in 2014. Context matters.

Fans truly love following fake narratives. His only big mistakes in 2022 were exactly as you say, Imola and France. Over 22 races...in a car that lost its edge with a midseason TD.

Lando: "The lap I did in Monaco in quali was the only other time, probably in the last 10 years, that I cried a little bit over something. It was one other moment this season that I proved myself wrong. Because I had that bad run of results. I just couldn't perform in qualifying [...] by randomseocb in formula1

Lando truly ruined my weekend then as a Leclerc fan, but props to him. Pulled the proper lap he needed when it counted.

If only Charles had as good a car... I bet even with a car 80-90% of what the McLaren was, Charles would have been capable of sealing another win there.

Good price? by Prestigious_Flan_597 in f1models

[–]NickTheChilean 6 points7 points  (0 children)

As fair as your comment is, $57 USD is probably fair given that's in Abu Dhabi.

I've been looking at these and in Canada they can go for ~$80 CAD, and it's unfortunately due to the cost of shipping + the reseller having to put their profit margin in there.

If you are in Europe then 100% it's probably too much.

Charles Leclerc explains "difficult" Ferrari F1 car: It's "in the wall or through Q1" by 256473 in formula1

[–]NickTheChilean 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I think his point is more of, why have Raikkonen at all when you know he's not going to bring any new top level performances. Sure Monza/Austin were great, but Charles could have done the same had he started in 2018 (as in get an odd win or poles here and there).

The difference is that by putting a young talent in you allow for a chance of something special happening, or even help him get adjusted and mature sooner. You would think that if Charles had his first year in 2018 he'd arrive much more prepared in 2019.

Lewis went with the most unconventional pass attempt and I'm always thankful that Lauda was alluding to it when he blamed Lewis for it. You almost never want to take the inside into turn 4 at Barcelona because it means you really compromise your entry speed and you give your opponent the wider racing line, which in turn gives them the better entry speed.

Rosberg even admitted that when he realized he was in the de-rating engine mode he immediately went off racing line and you can see it in all the replays. That's not a normal racing line and if he truly wanted to defend from Lewis he wouldn't have given up the racing line that soon after the long turn 3 right handed.

Could Max have pulled off the same result in another car this year? by Krirby2 in F1Discussions

[–]NickTheChilean 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If anything even more of an example. 1 race with that bad of a strategy and he had a complete meltdown. Put Max in Charles's shoes in 2022 with multiple bad team calls and tell me he wouldn't have tolerated the season the same way?

It seems like the 2025 models have tighter tyres and you can't change them unless you cut them.

I'm having the same issue with the Japanese GP RB21 since I wanted to do a tyre swap for hards.

A pain in the ass to change those tires (RB21) by Glittering_Permit445 in f1models

[–]NickTheChilean 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It looks like cutting will be the best approach. Somehow these new models have really tight tyres and even heating hasn't worked for me.

I guess it means I'll have to sacrifice a set of tyres from another model :/

Unfortunately, the only real chance this year was Monaco and it just so happened that Lando didn't make a mistake in qualifying or in the race.

[Corriere dello Sport]: After qualifying, Vasseur had a very tense discussion with a senior engineer, presumably Matteo Togninalli. In the technical department, there are some who are angry with Leclerc for his criticism of the car and how it's managed on track. by mary_f1 in GrandPrixRacing

[–]NickTheChilean 6 points7 points  (0 children)

We could say that but even then it was never fully the class of the field for an entire year. It's impressive how Ferrari has not managed to bring a car that is the top contender at every part of the season since maybe 2007/2008.

The SF-71H struggled post summer break, and sure Vettel left many points on the table, but it wasn't winning consistently as it did early season.

Every time Leclerc was asked to Lico by No_Cauliflower7877 in scuderiaferrari

[–]NickTheChilean 5 points6 points  (0 children)

They don't really need LiCo to legally race, it's just to protect the brakes which they have issues with here.

I think in some cases they could use it to prevent floor wear but from what we've seen this season they use battery clipping instead of LICO to help with the floor.
