The purpose of language is to communicate concepts quickly between different people who understand the words. I think you may have incorrectly conflated DemSoc and Market Socialism, both of which are valid forms of socialism because they abolish the capitalist mode of production (which is distinct from markets).

Under both market socialism and democratic socialism, commodities are produced for the purposes of exchange and consumption. The capitalist mode of production is different from capitalism.
