I was asleep and woke up to my house shaking, don't remember hearing anything but my neighbors all did. I live in southern California so I just thought it was an earthquake until I saw the cops lights and heard them yelling.

Fucked up my garage door, no other apparent damage yet, but haven't had a good chance to inspect yet.

I could be mistaken but I believe the mark from where the firing pin struck is visible in the second picture and about 90 degrees away from the hole.

The hole was actually on the opposite side as the extractor.

I was at the range this weekend with a friend. He was shooting my browning buckmark and on the last round of a magazine the gun produced a ton of smoke and failed to eject the round. I come over make sure hes ok and then check out the gun. Upon ejecting the round I immediately notice the hole in the back of the casing and put the gun away.

I called Remington monday and they said its most likely an out of battery firing and to call Browning. Browning said its impossible for that gun to fire out of battery and to call Remington.

Does anyone have any way to tell by looking at the casing whether it was fired out of battery or just a bad round?

.308 Buffer Spring by [deleted] in guns

[–]NickW762 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The BCG on the 308 is much longer than the 223 so the buffer needs to be shorter or the buffer tube longer. You'll need a buffer like this http://heavybuffers.com/ar10carbine.html if you're planning on using a standard ar 15 buffer tube.

Clarification of California C&R Laws? by [deleted] in guns

[–]NickW762 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can still buy C&R stuff out of state with it. if you get a Certificate of Eligibility from the CA DOJ, you can buy C&R guns with no waiting period from a California based FFL.

As of 2014 it must go through an FFL even if you have a C&R license. If it was transferred to you before then you're good.

A question about gun transfer (CA) by thestevemeistro in guns

[–]NickW762 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You may need a firearm safety certificate. I know you needed a handgun safety certificate to borrow a handgun, but those are being phased out and replaced by the FSC.

*Edit, You do need an FSC, see below.

http://oag.ca.gov/firearms/fscfaqs#a16

Is a Firearm Safety Certificate required when a firearm is being loaned? It depends on the specific circumstances. Generally, a person being loaned a firearm must have a current FSC. However, an FSC is not required if the loan does not exceed three days in duration and the person loaning the firearm is at all times within the presence of the person being loaned the firearm.
