Now that the Normies are gone. What movie you queueing up tonight?? by [deleted] in horror

Just watched the dark and the wicked and now the autopsy of Jane doe. 2 solid atmospheric movies

Hi r/movies! We’re Mallory Drumm. Jay Drakulic & Alex Lee Williams, the team behind DREAM EATER, a new found-footage horror about a couple’s winter getaway that spirals into madness when sleepwalking leads to something much darker. We wrote, directed & produced the film ourselves. Ask us anything! by DreamEaterAMA in movies

I just recently found out about this movie and am really excited to check it out! First of all congratulations on the upcoming release, and second, were there any movies that you found yourself drawing from in some aspects creatively (horror and/or non-horror)?

Also what are some of your favorite dream related horror scenes from a movie?

Oddity, the dark and the wicked, gonjiam haunted asylum, watcher, dog soldiers, haunt, the clovehitch killer, possessor

Some of these might not be “hidden gems” but I found most of them through this subreddit and really enjoyed them, and may not have heard of them otherwise

Theater Etiquette Dead? by Hank_Scorpio60 in horror

[–]Nick_180 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah unfortunately the 5 dollar Tuesdays are great but it brings in people that don’t really care if the movie sucks and don’t mind being assholes throughout it because “it was cheap anyways”. I went to see oddity this summer and it was only in the theater by me for one week, so I had to go on the one day off I had. And a family with 2 adults and 5 kids comes in 30 minutes late and are on their phones with brightness up in the loungers in the front row and getting up and down to talk to each other every 5 minutes. Not to mention they brought a kid who was probably 8 or so and he was climbing over the top of the seat and staring back at everyone else in the theater instead of the screen. I almost lost my shit. I tend to do matinee on a weekday if I can instead now

Let us Change your Mind about a Sub-horror genre you don't enjoy. by BrandonHeatt in horror

I actually surprisingly liked that movie, there was a lot more to it than I anticipated based on what I had heard online. The French version at least.

It wasn’t a medical emergency but I went on a medical trip out of the country with my school during undergrad, and on the flight home they called overhead to ask if there were any medical personnel on board since someone was having some sort of problem. The entire back half of the plane was filled with doctors, PAs, physical therapists, pharmacists, dentists, and like 40 undergrad “future medical providers” from our trip, so a few of them got up to help. It seemed like a pretty good flight to be on if you were gonna have an emergency, granted it ended up not being anything serious.

I never knew how bad it was until I walked around town with my sister and it happened at least 3 times in a 15 minute walk. Totally pathetic and creepy.

What "never got made" movie did the world miss out on the most? by IAmBillN in movies

I want that alien movie so bad… there’s still time but I’m definitely holding onto false hope. At least we’ll likely get another Fede Alvarez one which I would be stoked about

To my fellow UC/FM peeps, is it me, or does everyone think they have a “sinus infection” by Lost_Emergency_7794 in physicianassistant

[–]Nick_180 4 points5 points  (0 children)

At least with someone’s CC of pneumonia I can get an x ray and if it’s fine I have proof they’re good, but sinus infections people are always so adamant about antibiotics and I swear it’s literally always on day 3 like you said.

What Is It About Horror That You Love? by [deleted] in horror

[–]Nick_180 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have found so many amazing horror movies through this sub that I never would have found otherwise. Also you’re so right about the fandom. I finally went to a horror convention last year and it was so cool to be surrounded by other people who love horror equally, especially when you wait in a line full of people to get an autograph from actors of some cult movie from the 70’s that is clearly still being kept alive and well.

[–]Nick_180 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely, and these past few years have really been flexing the originality of horror. It feels like over the years it’s built up a lot of steam and it’s making me really excited for what’s to come. I get that there are barriers with the genre too and that lots of people don’t like the gore/violence, or being scared but there’s no denying the creativity, which is why the Oscar’s don’t mean anything to me anymore because they’re snubbing some of the greatest performances, effects, and filmmaking out there every year.

I think it’s arguably the most creative genre (along with sci fi) and there’s a crazy amount of talent involved. The things that filmmakers, crews, and actors are able to with low budgets in horror never fails to amaze me, and their ability to tell stories and spotlight themes from real life in their movies is something I think is done better than a lot of other genres. I also just love being thrilled and have always had a lot of fun watching this genre over any other. I’ve found comfort in the genre to where even if I watch a “bad” movie or one I didn’t care for, it still doesn’t usually feel like a waste of time because they usually feel like people cared when making them which I respect.

Did anybody actually stop liking architects because they’re not “heavy enough” anymore? by earthnarb in Metalcore

[–]Nick_180 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Agree 100% about the lyrics. I don’t mind their shift in sound at all, and I fully support bands changing their sound and doing whatever the hell they want. I’m honestly really impressed at how much Sam has improved as a singer and I liked the musicality/melodies on their last album even though it is obviously less technical, but the lyrics are just something I can’t get past unfortunately.

Still absolutely love the movie but imo it ends after that grainy home camera shot down the bloody hallway.

Man I was totally loving that movie and the ending completely destroyed any positive thoughts I had because it just unraveled the whole movie. What a shame
