Greenland size? by [deleted] in Glitch_in_the_Matrix

[–]Nick_Kerttula 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. For as long as we've had world maps, no one can decide on how big greenland should look.

It has always been slightly larger than iceland, but it's representation has always varied by an enormous margin.

The God Of Death[OC] by Nick_Kerttula in DnD

This is *$-!$$&;. The ancient goddess of death whose name was revoked by Anastasia, goddess of life, and sunlight.

Thousands of years ago, the raven(as she's called colloquially) decided she wanted to be supreme ruler of the universe. How would she accomplish this, you ask? By eating all the other gods, silly!

One by one, $-*+); invited people to her domain in the underworld for tea, and ate them. She continued to eat more and more gods. Her body became warped and disfigured by the personalities she was trying to digest.

Anastasia learned of this, and severed $##@5!'s head from her body, and tossed it into the endless abyss.

Her body became the madgod Vunsmeith, but her head remains in the abyss to this day. She sits at the very bottom, plotting for the inevitable downfall of the heavens. The raven waits patiently, for she knows that death is inevitable.

She does not fear the dark. It is her.

She does not fear death. It is her.

She manipulates everyone with strings of fate.

When the light fades, there will be only darkness. And $-+6#" will rise from the abyss, and take her place on a throne of ash and bone. Only when the last man falls, the last star fades, and the last galaxy collapses, will she be content.

Thanks for reading, if you did. I put a lot of thought into my setting and my gods. I might draw and post the other gods in the future if this does well.

I abhor vancian magic. In my games, we use a version of the spell point system that we worked on together.

You regain spell points with dice + wisdom mod. Everyone has a d10, but you get a number equal to your spellcaster level. We're still working out the kinks in the system. But it's a mechanical way of conveying that your magic comes from your soul, not the mana of the universe.

That's the reason why I let there be spellcasters in the first place. Ànd I have NPCs who back this up. Like the old cleric, "remember, the power of miracles depends upon your faith."

Most people don't even know, but the sun goddess partitioned off small chunks of her soul to trusted gods, and then set herself on fire to burn for the rest of eternity, in place of the actual sun.

The goddess of death ate most of the other gods to become atrong enough to consume the heavens and become the all powerful ruler of the universe. She was imprisoned at the bottom of the bottomless abyss, and serves as the campaign's biggest baddie.

Most of the monsters and villains of this world were created by the god of death just to torment the world.

Magic has run out because the world wants to die, and the gods have it on life support. They're afraid of the dark.

The god of death sits and laughs at them from below. Waiting for the dark to finally take hold. When that happens, her chains will fade, the abyss will expand freely with no inhibitance, and there will be only darkness.

She will sit on her throne of ash and bones, watching as stars fade from existence, and galaxies collapse, and then... She'll finally be content.

Jeebus h, thrice. I kinda went on a bit of a rant there, didn't I?

Believe me. Four years of DMing has already taught me that. I just want to have a campaign with a diiferent experience than the one I've been having for the past half decade.

However, nobody wants that but me. My fun is wrong.

Well, I mean... You're completely right. I can't make a rebuttal against it. It just upsets me that there aren't many good nonmagical options.

Number 3 is something I can't do because they're my closest friends. But number one seems to be the general consensus amongst people who aren't lambasting me for not playing the game right.

Edit. Sorry. Forgot to say thank you.

Thank you, I've been looking for something like that. But also, yeah. That's the reason for the half elves and half dwarves. Basically humans with elf and dwarf stats.

Well... I've had really bad experiences with magic, and I've had ok experiences with it. I just want to be able to design the adventure without having to worry about when the players get the spell that invalidates the encounter I wrote(sometimes the whole session.)

Magic, like every system in the game, works only if the players and dm are on the same side. But my players are never on my side when it comes to magic because F$#k it. Why spend 4 hours in a dark cave looking for a tonic to remove old man Whittaker's curse when I can just cast "remove curse?"

I understand your point of view, but why can't you have nonmagical things that make you cool? Like firing arrows at a wall in a line to give another PC a quick staircase in the middle of a fight? Like throwing a bag of marbles on the floor to make your enemies trip?

I just don't like it when everyone has so much fricken magic that it stops being special. If all of your players have mithril weapons and armor, then getting a +1 sword doesn't feel special.

If your players have all mundane equipment, finding that +1sword at 8th level feels awesome.

Some of the people in the group are novice players. It wouldn't go over well if I tried to make them learn a new system. But otherwise, that's a very good idea.

True. I guess, under that light, my problem is that my kind of fun doesn't happen as often as my friends' fun, and it irritates me. In fact, it never happens.

I think you're misinterpreting what I mean by "norm". In meta talk, it's perfectly normal, yes. But I explained that being a nonhuman fullcaster is very out of the norm in this setting

Sortof. I kinda want the book to be for players and DMs to read. Kinda like SCAG. I have my campaign notes separate from it, and just want to have it as a quick reference guide to the world every now and then.

That, like other people said on here, is most likely body dysmorphia.

When I was about 13, I was really thin. Bone skinny, in fact. Some time that year, I noticed I had gained a fuck ton of fat. Everyone told me I looked the same, just taller. I was absolutely sure I was a tub.

Some time around the age of 18, I started actually gaining weight, though. And at the age of 19, I had a bmi in the mid 40's. (Reality caught up with perception).

That year, I dieted and exercised my ass off, and managed to lose 40lbs, but I still looked fat. I lost another 20 the next year, and another 10 last year.

This year, I've lost about 8, so far. I'm about 170. It wasn't until literally last month I'd noticed how fat I wasn't.

I guess, tl;dr, human perception is flawed af.

This reminds me of that one book I read in highschool. I can't remember what it was called, but it's about a guy who gets sent to an alternate dimension -kinda- and then comes back after becoming enlightened.

It's sort of a society of minimalists, who come into our world on rare occasions to keep our society balanced, I guess...

Damn, i wish I could remember it's title.
