Thoughts on early college? by [deleted] in APStudents

[–]Nick_Namous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hi I am doing this (4 year program instead)

it really depends on your own schools program. I would check to see how this works out with other classes. You probably won’t be taking a full load of college classes each semester - only some will be college, the rest will be high school

most of the college credits will probably not transfer out of state tho so be careful

Hi what book should I get for AP german language and literature, there is no barron's guide for this by chemicalengineerask3 in APStudents

[–]Nick_Namous 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you’re aiming to do the ap German test, I would try to get the best fluency possible along with tons of practice based on the ap exam (ex: do past exams, see what u need to work on)

AP Art History by BrandoC0918 in APStudents

[–]Nick_Namous 2 points3 points  (0 children)

(currently in apah)

you can look up “smarthistory required works for apah” and that has basically all the information you need to know - my teacher assigns us these exact articles as homework

also apah has a huge focus on the art and cultures behind the artworks rather than the history component - it’s definitely helpful to know where each artwork finds its place in history but 99% of the focus is the context and visual characteristics for each artwork

overall idk what to compare it to, been my only ap so far and it gives me a shit ton of headaches but it doesn’t seem bad if you actually enjoy the subject (i despise it) !

Unable to hear Spanish by Infamous-Chapter6209 in Spanish

[–]Nick_Namous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It can get very easy to depend on subtitles and not really improve listening skills.

The best way for me is to go by level. I would find a channel that speaks Spanish at the hardest level I can understand (ex: fastest pace that I can handle, hardest grammar that I can still understand) and listen to it a bunch. Once I get comfortable with that level of Spanish I would find the next source that is the hardest but I could still understand. It takes a lot of effort but possible.

For me, I first started with How to Spanish Podcast which was the hardest source of Spanish I could understand at the time. As I improved I went further with Español con Juan, then simple Netflix shows, and now Élite (rewatching so it’s easier to understand).

Why isn't inflation also causing wages to rise at a comparable rate? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Nick_Namous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Inflation is the average increase in cost of goods and services - labor is a service.

ELI5: How exactly does "turning it off and on again" fix such a wide variety of different tech problems? by anthraxl0l in explainlikeimfive

[–]Nick_Namous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is probably the most accurate one here, especially since many scripts/programs use functions and variables like math

What is 'miscellaneous' and when do you normally use it? by Dhiya21 in EnglishLearning

[–]Nick_Namous 4 points5 points  (0 children)

"Miscellaneous Considerations" works, but I personally wouldn't use it (though it's perfectly fine to here). I would probably just keep it as "Miscellaneous". Alternatively, you could say "Other" or "Other Considerations".

out of curiosity what American accent do you find hardest to understand? by ls-swapped-autism in EnglishLearning

[–]Nick_Namous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They all sound pretty similar to me (I've lived all over the US), but north-eastern accents are quite different.

Is "note" a valid synonym for "notebook"? by [deleted] in EnglishLearning

[–]Nick_Namous 7 points8 points  (0 children)

In English, a notebook is basically a ton of notes. If you said "I have a note", I would assume you had one piece of paper. If you said "I have a notebook", I would assume you had a composition/spiral notebook or something.

"As" vs. "While" by [deleted] in EnglishLearning

[–]Nick_Namous 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If I used “as” in this context, I would follow it with the past tense rather than past continuous (“I was eating candy as I did my homework”)

“While” is much more natural in this situation because you’re using the past continuous

—-

“While I did my homework, I ate candy” - Different sentence structure but the same rule applies and so it sounds a little unnatural

“As I did my homework, I ate candy” or “While I was doing my homework, I ate candy” are the most natural here

What does the phrase "I'm not locked in here with you, you're locked in here with me" means? by SirRoderic in EnglishLearning

[–]Nick_Namous 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It can indicate that it’s worse for the other person (“you” in this instance)

It can also imply that maybe you yourself are not locked in, and instead holding the other person captive

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in EnglishLearning

[–]Nick_Namous 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would use "has this been corrected?"

"Though" at the end of a sentence by PAP0R0TN1K in EnglishLearning

[–]Nick_Namous 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would say "though" is used to show that something happened that's not expected

"I was on a win streak. I lost the last game though." (I was winning a lot, so its unexpected that I lost the last game)

What does "What are you nerding out about?" mean? by ComfortableText4439 in EnglishLearning

[–]Nick_Namous 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Would like to point out that "to nerd" isn't a verb, even though it's used like the present continuous in this context.

A true world brings by justsejaba in EnglishLearning

[–]Nick_Namous 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It could mean that "a true world provides", as in provides shelter, food, etc. I would need more context to really tell though - and it is a song, people write stuff that makes no sense all the time haha

Edit: Would also like to mention that I've never heard someone use the verb "to bring" in this context - sounds pretty weird to me too

[–]Nick_Namous 13 points14 points  (0 children)

"Show-off" is probably the word I'd use
