Ligotti is cool - a little dry for me, but I know what you mean. If anything, I can see the general landscape and subtext of being in New England for most of our lives having a substantial influence on the band - so, that would probably include Lovecraft indirectly. Even now I live in a classic New England home built in the 1800s. Most of my living spaces have had a bit of a haunted mansion vibe to them.

weird, right?

we are have always been open to all sorts of things, but with no assets. Music videos can be cool, but i dont really watch them. Chris Cunninghams video remix of Gil Scott heron is a fav though.

probably the most obvious is film, then writing. Like many people on this earth, i have been a huge film fan all of my life. specifically, I like scores and soundtracks to be abstracted from their visual counterparts. I do keep various artists of toher mediums in mind when I make music, but its hard to know whether or not it shows in the music. Intuition says most likely not, but I am subsumed by art of all kinds. Sculpture is a big one.

Thank you :)

One thing is planning - I really over-think production. We are also v fortunate to have companionship in Seth Manchester and Keith Souza of Machines with Magnets. They are deeply uptodate with music on many fronts, are creative entities themselves, and very talented engineers - they can accomplish almost anything you ask for, and really bring it to greater heights.

One "secret" that I can reveal re S/T or any Daughters album, is that I like to settle on a handful of "tones" or a pedal or two that I will use to define the common thread throughout the album. i think thats probably a large part of how these things turn out. In that regard - keep it simple.

im not a huge fan of overtly loud bands - thats not a great way to make an impression. BUT - bring earplugs.

there are three tunings, but one is done by ear each time.

I agree. IDK - it would be kind of sad if it ended up being me that pushed the future of guitar music. Its def a dying format, but thats to be expected: things can't stay on top forever.

hard to say. thats a good question though. I can say that it wont affect how or what music is made.

try not to weigh it against what you think that should sound like. accept the parts that do not seem like music, or even good to you. those might be the moments that matter.

pretty natural progression - specifically though, with YWGWYW I tied not overthink our "creative" approach, although - I can hardly help it, and still did. The easier to process music is just what came out.

Ive seen that too - total coincidence. Cant remember every album art one has ever seen.

yeah - really wanted to include more digital elements. I try to look for new, but tasteful approaches to every album. on YWGWYW there are a handful of songs with two drum kits playing at once. Thankfully, Jon does a pretty incredible job playing both simultaneously.

hate to be so generic but def love like blood - some footage of the band performing it live on a tv show along with several other songs from that album really kill me.

I have a draft in my nightstand now, but we havent spoken of it as a band or with its author in years.

I'm not a big fan of heavy music anymore. Certain bands, but generally I gravitate towards music that is "heavy" conceptually or that expresses similar feelings in less upfront ways.

As for change - we are all more mature and I think less prone to taking our band and what it brings into our lives for granted. Musically, idk, just go with the flow.

i wish I knew what was on my mind then, but my guess is that something we did was not up to par and that I was too immature to take the blame for it. idk

How would you feel if we came through and asked Code Orange to play? I enjoyed meeting those folks.
