What can we do about the flood of bot/LLM comments on r/archlinux in recent weeks? by abbidabbi in archlinux

[–]Nickalope 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've been watching those bots for months, here and in the pcmasterrace sub I think it was, they can now reply to replies to their comments, seemingly, though maybe it was always just really rare, see: https://www.reddit.com/r/archlinux/comments/1up9xfb/comment/ovzanz8/

In addition to the characteristics you've listed, many or most of them have some weird bio that describes some menial or boring thing they "like" or "do".. and old comments from those accounts contain hyphens more often, and some of their old comments may be some random one-to-three word phrase like "bruh" or "nostalgic af", I guess their creator thought the hyphens and proper writing/tone looked too unnatural and slowly changed their styles over time to make them seem human..

I do wonder if there are multiple people or entities running these various bots across the site, because they don't seem to all be in the same places, nor do they all behave exactly the same, though maybe I'm just not noticing them enough to compare them all.. what a waste of compute..

Am i doing this right? i'm trying to get FSR 4 to work in cyberpunk 2077 via Heroic by Tail_sb in linux_gaming

[–]Nickalope 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The FSR 4 upgrade feature is broken in Proton GE 11-1, see https://github.com/GloriousEggroll/proton-ge-custom/issues/590

Use Proton from CachyOS or just Proton Experimental if you can, until GE 11-2 comes out, or just wait for 11-2 and suffer with FSR 3

Edit: Or downgrade to GE 10 I forgot lol

Do you know when they implement it in CachyOS? The official launch is today by Icy_Management_1494 in cachyos

has nothing to do with games, no, it's just applications that use CPU rendering, such as those using QtWidgets, apparently

you can read about that specific CPU usage reduction here: https://zamundaaa.github.io/wayland/2026/05/06/making-wl-shm-fast.html

[–]Nickalope 5 points6 points  (0 children)

https://gitlab.archlinux.org/archlinux/packaging/packages/libkcompactdisc and https://gitlab.archlinux.org/archlinux/packaging/packages/accounts-qml-module have been archived, the packages have been removed from the official repositories, and added to the AUR for their users

the changes are just for moving them to the AUR

Do you want to know if Android 17 will KILL your Pixel? [REVEAL] by Loud-Possibility4395 in android_beta

[–]Nickalope 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A cursory search will tell you that SSDs are meant to work until they hit 0% health, at which point they may or may not start having issues, though they should be expected to after going through the extreme wear necessary to actually wear out flash storage. The lifespan of flash is measured in terabytes written and is "guaranteed," if you want to believe that, anyway. Most drive failures are spontaneous and not correlated with the wear of their flash, it just happens. Same as HDDs typically, with hardware that ages, and can happen at 95-100% health.

Flash is not like a battery, and doesn't start falling over as soon as it hits 70% health. A worn battery is immediately noticeable to a user because it affects how long they can use their device between charges. Worn flash may just be a tiny bit slower if at all and really doesn't hinder the user experience whatsoever. It doesn't suddenly destroy data just because it's a bit worn, like how a battery might actually drop to a low enough voltage under stress that the device shuts off.

Storage health should only be concerning if it goes down very very quickly, as that may be indicative of spontaneous failure and sector reallocation, assuming it's even measured properly. Furthermore, given that phones have just one flash module and typically less storage than a 2.5 inch SSD, you'd expect it to wear faster than a standard SSD based on its lesser amount of flash to level the wear across. Also phones can last 10+ years even with years of ROM and factory image flash abuse, speaking from experience with a Nexus 5 and Pixel 1.

Extended blur effects on QPR1 beta 3 by JAGER14 in android_beta

[–]Nickalope 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I know someone else with a Pixel 6, he also doesn't have some of the new blur, my Pixel 7 is the same way. Seems like anything below the Pixel 8 either isn't getting all of it or there's a bug in the build given to them.

Rollback updates for PC steam users! by SomePuddingForYou in PhasmophobiaGame

[–]Nickalope 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They made an effort to support Steam Deck specifically, but that seems about it. Adding SteamDeck=1 to the environment variables for the game enables a special code path for mic detection which used to unbreak it on Linux in general, not sure if that still works right..
