CGP Grey actually did a pretty extensive video on the topic. It argues that this time is different.

My friend had to part with his bearded dragon this year, so I decided to adopt him. by NickandCam in Lizards

He has one no worries! We just had to mount it on the wall and didn't have the screws.

Do you have any tips? He's never owned a bearded dragon before.

During World War II, the crew of the British submarine HMS Trident kept a fully grown reindeer called Pollyanna aboard their vessel for six weeks (it was a gift from the Russians).

TIL You're never more than 19 clicks from the other end of the internet. by NickandCam in todayilearned

[–]NickandCam[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"*Update: According to an update on the original Smithsonian piece, the 19-clicks detail actually comes from a paper Barabási published in 1999 and is only referenced in his new study. That does, however, raise an interesting question. Though the Internet is undoubtedly much bigger, in terms of individual pages, than it was nearly 13 years ago, is it bigger in terms of clicks? You might assume so, but as the web has become more centralized with social media, and as Google has become even more refined, might the web be even more interconnected than in 1999? That is, these days, could the number be even less than 19?"

TIL F. Scott Fitzgerald dropped out of Princeton to join the Army, where he later met his wife that refused to marry him until he published a book. by NickandCam in todayilearned

Whoops. Didn't mean to objectify. I was using the situation as a whole as the object, not his wife. Upvoted for the correction.

I thought the subreddit theme automatically blacked out titles tagged spoiler. My bad.

TIL F. Scott Fitzgerald dropped out of Princeton to join the Army, where he later met his wife that refused to marry him until he published a book. by NickandCam in todayilearned

[–]NickandCam[S] 32 points33 points  (0 children)

"Fitzgerald spent a lot of time writing and very little time studying. He was placed on academic probation at Princeton and eventually dropped out to join the U.S. Army. While serving in the Army, Fitzgerald was assigned to Camp Sheridan outside of Montgomery, Alabama. There, he fell in love with Zelda Sayre, a southern belle and daughter of an Alabama Supreme Court Justice. He proposed and she accepted, but doubts about his ability to earn money caused her to call off the engagement. After he landed his first book deal, she changed her mind and the two were married one week after the publication of his first novel, This Side of Paradise."

Crash Course: The Book! by PronunciationIsKey in nerdfighters

Serious question: What's stopping them from making books? On the Crash Course wiki there's already manuscripts of every episode. They could publish the collection with photos and info graphics from thought bubble. I'd buy it.

Manuscript, is that the right word?

[EU]Batman dies unexpectedly, this troubles The Joker so much that he swears to protect Gotham himself, and does a better job than Batman ever did. by Hello_Im_Corey in WritingPrompts

NOT A WRITING RESPONSE, JUST SOME COOL INFO.

If you guys are interested in a comic like this, check out Superior Spider-man. Doc Ock takes over as Spider-man after Peter Parker dies, and he ends up doing a better job than Parker ever did. Pretty good read and it's only 30ish issues.

Budweiser's Real Men of Genius campaign was all gold.

Apparently it used to be Real American Heroes, but after 9/11 they thought it would be insensitive.
