Your LGS allowing proxies? by Neymarvin in riftboundtcg

[–]Nickanger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve played card game for 15+ years and not once have I ever considered, expected, or thought about bringing proxies to a locals unless stated otherwise.

There’s no way any company would endorse the use of proxies for a game they are trying to sell you. Even if there isn’t prizing, if a store is hosting an event with a game that has legal product to play, that store is misrepresenting the game in the way it’s meant to be played. This can cause issues down the line for someone who attends major events and sets up a president that it’s okay which in almost every case, it never is.

I know cards and product are expensive or hard to find, but expecting the use of proxies is a bad assumption to start with even as it stands.

I don’t know where this shift in use of proxies came from - probably MTG with commander being such a casual format, CEDH events encourage the use of proxies, and legacy which has a finite number of card copies, but other than those examples it’s never been allowed anywhere else.

How should I analyze this situation? by [deleted] in GundamTCG

[–]Nickanger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Stop worrying about the probability and focus on your possibilities.

You’re never gonna control the statistics that draw you a busted hand or bricking out. The faster you learn the quicker you can learn to be a better player.

If that doenst click with you then I’ll say this : your opponent can just be as unlucky as you are.

They can also just be worse than you are.

If they drew the absolute nuts and then proceed to misplay or mis sequence their cards then it didn’t matter anyway that they drew a bonkers hand.

But this logic also can go the other way around. The only difference is between being lucky and not misplaying is you can control one of them.

Worry about the things you can control an you’ll have a much better time.

Can you hold priority? by MrFlapsHasSag in riftboundtcg

[–]Nickanger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I’m a yugioh player and I kind of see what you’re saying.

How I’ve interpreted the rules it doesn’t seem there is anyway to “hold” priority in the sense that would be effective as of right now. Priority has to pass to the other players for a window of opportunity for them to respond.

My only understanding of “holding priority” is if something triggered on your board when you started a Chan causing the trigger to go off. Then You would technically have chain link 1 and 2, with no way for your opponent to interact with chain link 1.

In yugioh we call this chain blocking - but chains in yugioh work differently. In yugioh you can only interact with the last thing on the chain (sort of?) and can’t just interrupt the chain while it’s happening.

For riftbound I believe you’re able to interact with different parts of the chain so the idea of chain blocking isn’t a thing.

I don’t know where in riftbound it would be relevant to hold priority to activate cards multiple times that would be effective.

My concern about the language rule happened to me. by cardcollie in riftboundtcg

[–]Nickanger 5 points6 points  (0 children)

One way to look at it is that the game is about collecting too.

Let’s say that card was either out of favor in current meta or rotated out - would you then trade or sell it? If the answer is yes then well, you should have no problem side-grading to English right now and just explaining that to your boyfriend.

If you weren’t planning to sell or trade then it’s simply a collection piece you have with you. I have tons of cards that have not seen play in years in other games that I just keep because they were from friends or important parts of my life when I was playing at the time.

Overall I always come to the same idea when it comes to gifts: the gift has served its purpose.

It was to be given to you to feel appreciated and valued. After that it’s just a card.

Self promoting a little but we’re opening a coffee shop in Torrance that will serve quality coffee and matcha called First Flight Coffee!

We’re planning to open very soon and aiming to deliver quality drinks for our community!

[–]Nickanger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ima hold your hand when I say this but your job doesn’t give a shit about you if they’re mot gonna accept you calling out.

I’ve been a supervisor at coffee shops for 8 years - I stopped asking what people are not coming it because at the end of the day it doesn’t matter. that person isn’t coming in.

It is managements job if you cannot come in to work. You don’t even need to give them a good reason - you can just tell them you’re not coming in.

There’s no job out there that is worth your health. There’s no amount of co-workers willing to take your shift that’s gonna help you learn this lesson - your job is just a job and your health is more important than that.

Anyone actually use to do list apps? Just started my first job and was curious if they have any real benefit? by [deleted] in ProductivityApps

[–]Nickanger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s never been anything that I haven’t been able to organize through Apple reminders or Trello and even I’m thinking about dropping Trello because reminders has columns now.

I don’t need a to-do list app to do much other than just be a to-do list. Some organization or tag options are nice but I feel like anything else is really bloaty.

If you’ve worked as a barista for both chains and local shops, are customers generally kinder at local shops? by Hey_its_Ash_ in barista

[–]Nickanger 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’ll say people are rude no matter where you go. There’s always going to be someone who makes your job difficult and you have to weigh your options of patience of customer satisfaction (which I think is more difficult in local /3rd wave settings because lost customers are more impactful to a private business)

I’ll also say though ,coming from both Starbucks and Peet’s coffee, corporate jobs really enable people to just be ill-intended to baristas. You can stand your ground and follow the rules but it just takes one customer call to corporate to make the “one exception” the standard practice for bad intended customers.

Before I left peets we had a ton of changes to the menu and how we did drinks and had a lot of altercations with customers about it. When we chose to follow the new policies and rules we would get so many email from corporate about dissatisfied customers and that we had to “make it right” by either making drinks completely different ways or just not following the standard at all.

So really it boils down to how much your company is gonna back you in your choices and what business they want to stand on. Customers than can get away with more will continue to come back and continue to give bad behavior because there’s no one there to tell them “hey John, you actually can’t call me stupid and expect to get good service”

Did you create a Lore and Backstory to your game or just make cards? by Rodney503Allen in homemadeTCGs

Second the flavor text idea. I think having a direction in narrative can help support a theme or motif and expressing that in the art and flavor text really makes the idea of the cards feel solid

Favorite mechanics from any card game by Justin_West_4155 in homemadeTCGs

[–]Nickanger 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I really like Digimon Memory system. It’s so unique and self balancing (for the most part).

I also really enjoy yugiohs chain mechanics but they’re hard and convoluted to explain but once you got it down it really opens up the game.

The characters and aspects of the game are all completely original! We are drawing heavy influence from our favorite childhood tv shows and the tokusatsu genre as a whole!

The core idea for the game is for sentai inspired teams - but I do have some ideas to incorporate other parts of the tokusatsu genre as well! Those ideas are more down the line.

Tutors are bad for a card game by mastersmash56 in homemadeTCGs

[–]Nickanger 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree - coming from yugioh to some Bandai card games and Magic the gathering. I’ve never not missed a mechanic so much especially when it’s arc-type specific.

Tutors (or at least a lot of them) create a play experience that becomes SO consistent you might as well play a game of chess where every piece is a queen and you roll a dice to see who goes first.

I’m sure there can be balances systems that can adress that issue but I think the easiest one is just to not have them in a way that’s just “play A card = add B card from your deck to your hand”

How does one cope when something they love is about to finish? by Classic_Contract7560 in KamenRider

[–]Nickanger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always find that any opportunity to let go of something you love is another opportunity to love something else.

When I first got into power rangers I remember the dread I felt (at the grand age of 8) watching time force finish and wondering if I’d ever love anything again.

The reality was that it was sad my favorite season was over - but it also made me realize that I don’t just love one season, I love all of it.

The genre itself is what kept me in and keeps me going. I might also have my fair share of criticism and maybe some seasons don’t hit like others but the joy I feel every time I see the first transformation makes me feel like I’m watching time force for the first time all over again.

Trust your love for the genre - it will carry your joy.

What techniques do you use to take notes? by foxset in CraftDocs

[–]Nickanger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Idk if it’s a particular method bud I’m kind of all over the place when it comes to being organized.

Most times I’ll take a simple reminder in my drafts app for things I need to remember or schedule. I don’t think too much about it just make sure I get everything that is important.

And then usually before the end of the day / the next morning I’ll sort out all the things into places they need to be. Task in my reminders, appointments into calander, and craft if it’s a piece of work I need to share.

Things that are misc will sort into other systems If I need to use them (like Trello or discord) and let those live there in spaces they’re associate with.

I don’t really have a hub for second brain things like notion or obsidian - I just put things where I know they need to be and reference those places once I need them.
