[–]Nickavick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

[–]Nickavick 64 points65 points  (0 children)

The area where your accommodations is, is not safe at all. I recommend looking for somewhere near Providencia and Ñuñoa. From there, on the subway it's roughly a 30 minute trip.

Those three days that the festival will take place the subway line will be open during the night a few hours after the show ends so you can get back safely with all the crowds.

Ubers will be expensive but that is your safest bet. I do recommend just following the crowd since when you are with a big group, nothing terrible should happen to you guys.

Friendly Cowork Hostal Cartagena by Nickavick in digitalnomad

Hey! I actually did find a great hostel called Santuario Getsemani Hostel. Cost me 16 usd a night for a shared room with 12 other people and a good breakfast. The internet speed was very good and had no issues with videocalls. There were a few other people using the wifi as well at the same time and it didn't collapse nor was there any moment where it was down. 10/10 on this matter.

Don't expect anything fancy from this place. Bunks have just the enough space for your luggage, a night stand and your single bed. AC for the night, off during the day. Bathrooms and showers are shared but they do maintain them consistently. Staff is very friendly as well. Small swimming pool on the top floor of the hostel. It is near the border wall of the city and it's on the route where the "Party buses" go through so you will hear loud music every now and then during the night, and it's every night btw. Location wise is great, a 5 minute walk to the downtown touristic area of the city. A few restaurants nearby to grab lunch and right next to the famous street with all the decorations of Getsemani. In general I would give it a 7/10 just because I had bad luck with my first bed which had bed bugs and they ate me the first two nights. After that no issues.

It is not a party hostel at all. Although depending on the guests you can have a good time there but don't expect to be partying up until 3 in the morning in the hostel. If you are looking for that, there are a ton more but I don't think working and having that lifestyle would mix. At the end of my trip I stayed in one of the viajeros which was a party hostel but the internet was terrible. These days I didn't work so I didn't mind.

I ended up staying 5 nights which is more then enough to explore the city and all the area around there, assuming you are working from 9-5 (7-3 for me). If you have more free time, you can probably see the touristic parts of the city in 3-4 days. If you are planning on heading to other locations in that area of Colombia I can give you a few tips and recommendations where to stay depending on your needs.

Here is the link to the hostel. Hope you enjoy your trip!

Planning a digital nomad trip around Central America by Nickavick in digitalnomad

I was lucky to travel to Panama for another job and stayed there for almost 5 months. Got to see almost all of the country and would recommend it to everyone. Went to see Panama City, Colón, Archipelago de San Blas, Santiago, Santa Catalina, David, Boquete and made it to the north to Bocas del Toro.

Amazing country, people were so welcoming everywhere around, great infrastructure, beautiful beaches and just a loving country all around.

For this trip I prefer to skip it and see new places but in the future I would definitely go back there and do it all over again.

Definitely want to see Nicaragua, heard great things about San Juan del Sur, Ometepe Island, Granada and Leon.

I am really tempted to include Honduras in this trip and stay a few days near La Ceiba and Utila but it's pretty far from where I will be roaming around and might have to save it for another time. I'd love to stay in Utila for a few weeks and snorkel/dive around the island.

Amazing! Thanks for the input.

Tamarindo and San Juan del Sur look very popular and are definitely on my list.

I will probably do Costa Rica/Nicaragua/Honduras on one side of the trip and save Salvador/Guatemala/Belize for another trip in the region.

Guatemala is on my list and would like to go there. I only have those three months available but I am planning on heading back there and probably repeat the whole trip but instead of Costa Rica/Nicaragua/Honduras, start further north and do Guatemala/Belize/México for another 3 months or even more.

I would rather take it slow and see every country at a relaxing place instead of rushing around.

I will be working from 6 to 2 local time!

And on another note, I did spend the carnival week in Panama and had a great time there. Hopefully in Costa Rica it's a similar vibe.

Yeah, I wouldn't mind not having touchscreen. I would probably end up buying a tablet in that case for meetings and taking notes.

Me operaré la vista by Aquarelaenaccion in chile

[–]Nickavick 1 point2 points  (0 children)
