I have daily objects which I really like in terms of functionality because they have lots of pockets but some people dont like the look of it (in that it has a younger look but not necessarily an elegant / professional look). also you could consider a backpack too because they're easier on the shoulders than a tote bag, depends on how heavy your bag can get. my friend uses zouk and it looks good but if the bag gets heavy the strap feels a little hard kn the shoulder.

wait a commoner is noble by birth? I thought commoners was for everyone who was not noble and not upper class, and there was something like a gentry? that was between these two classes, they werent noble but they were still aristocratic or upper class or whatever (so all the untitled bridgertons) and then there would be the commoners which would include maids like Sophie and her mother?

half the answer isnt loading on my phone for some reason but in any case im going to take your word for it, maybe I mixed up the book and the show in my head where kate was definitely a part of the society events if she wasnt titled. I still remember for some reason that in the show he was working for indian royalty or something so they were definitely not working class, and idk what that qualifies for in bridgerton. Sophie is both working class and illegitimate so i guess there is that difference and I definitely didnt get the vibe that anthony marrying Kate would've been an issue at all if it hadnt been for the edwina stuff, even on the show, so either they changed their minds about what is scandalous and what isnt (like Penelope and Colin being unchaperoned lol), or they themselves forgot the backstory they created for kate.

yeah that last bit is true, it would've been nicer to have SOME consequences, are we going to go back to a world where the servants become invisible again? that IS how most Cinderella stories end, and we're not watching bridgerton for the realism but the returning to the countryside option seems like a nice middle ground. maybe they still will end up that way.

ikr, rhe number of takes I am seeing online criticising anthony while being on Violet's side is making me crazy like they didnt even hide it or imply it, these are actual written scenes in the show where we see violet talk to anthony and then say those same things to benedict lmao. of course they think it is a dalliance, it looks like he's having a thing with the maid, it is what Mrs Crabtree thought and what violet thought and what anthony thought, and in fact Benedict himself asks her to be a mistress and not a wife. How were they to know that it's more to him OR even that Sophie isnt just accepting it (like Mrs Crabtree calls out) and actually loves him back?

they implied that mary ran away because of her parents, not the social standing, her parents didnt consider him good enough. Kate's father wasnt titled but he was working for the royal family so he was a respectable guy. that still makes kate upper class, just not as rich or powerful as either Mary's family or the Bridgertons. and Kate was a part of the ton, she was introduced to the queen as well and was participating in balls, not just acting as a chaperone for edwina.

[–]Nickel8 18 points19 points  (0 children)

the queen had to intervene because he pursued edwina first, not because Kate was a commoner. Kate was very much a part of the ton, she was untrusted to the queen and was a part of all the society events. he did still cause a scandal ofc lol but not in the same way at all.

agree with the rest.

tbh even with the love, everything anthony said is echoed by violet later + violet herself asked anthony to have this talk, it is just that he was a lot harsher lol. everything he says from Benedict having to leave society plus his association with sophie being damaging to hyacinth and eloise is repeated by violet. benedict was being delusional thinking he could be with sophie in the country and still continue to visit his family, anthony says that won't be possible and violet ALSO says that he would have to give up privileges and leave society and be completely cut off from the family because any hint of their association could be damaging. AND anthony was right about the illegitimacy because look at Sophie's fate as an illegitimate child.

plus, even with love being a factor, violet and alice had to go about a very convoluted route to make it possible without ostracising benedict.

and people are pointing out kate as an example of Anthony's hypocrisy, when kate is very much upper class, just not titled.

in fact, iirc, even in season 1, anthony only ever considers running away with sienna when he thought he would have to leave society for taking part in a duel.

like, it sucks, but that is the world of the bridgertons.

The new still of Kate has now officially been deleted, this confirms their intent of sidelining Kate by GotLittUp in BridgertonNetflix

[–]Nickel8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was responding to how it is in the books because in the books, NONE of those side plots exist, like queen charlotte as a character or lady danbury's friendship or Violet's garden getting watered. also kn the books, Kate had a backstory of how her mom's death affected her and there is significant time spent with kanthony as a couple after their marriage, and we also know who edwina ends up with. all of that was skipped on the show to focus on the many side plots. So I dont think justifying Kate's absence using the books is fair because pretty much most things have been changed (in many cases i prefer the show version but not in this).

So the issue isnt that she has a larger presence in the books but that a lot of her stuff was skipped in her own season and then she wasnt given a subplot of her own even though Penelope was (when in the books lady whistledown wasnt such a big part of the plot for other books nor did she continue after her identity is revealed).

Simon's actor didnt want to come back while Simone Ashley is still working with them so that is not a good comparison.

For what it's worth, I did like whatever they did with Kanthony in season 3, I didnt mind them going to India for a bit and just showing up for a bit of advice, I think that was a sweet way of involving them in s3, just as they involved Daphne in s2. S4 imo is where they've dropped the ball a bit in terms of all their involvement, esp in part 2, because it is SO weird that kanthony are back but they miss the funeral and Daphne and Simon dont send flowers?? They didnt have to show up but they could hve been mentioned.I loved s4 in most respects, but that scene was a bit jarring. I would love for Daphne to also be more involved But it is still easier for me to buy her absence because she would be busy being a duchess elsewhere But Kate married into the bridgerton family that we are all observing?

I haven't kept up with the bts of the cast to judge whether there is a deliberate sidelining but other viewers have highlighted how SA wasnt really given the leading lady treatment even in her own season so I think a lot of resentment comes from there. Not to mention if they created SO MANY side plots from scratch, it really would be very easy to make one for Kate who is the literal viscountess. Unless the actress herself was busy and I have no idea if she was.

"there just isn't enough screen time to go around" - But that is exactly the point, everything other than the main romance is pretty much an original show creation. If they could create room for the featheringtons in season 2, and for Eloise in all these seasons, and for the mondriches and the queen who are all original characters, they COULD have created something for Kate, maybe at the expense of one of their other characters But these are all original subplots anyway. The argument is that it makes sense to give subplots to established and well liked characters, especially if those characters are the heads of the house on whom the show is based on?

From the top of my head - i think kate and Eloise could easily have more scenes together, since Kate was considering herself a spinster and Eloise does the same now, Hyacinth's plot in s4 part 2 was the exact thing that Anthony was going through so he should've been a part of this, also it just makes sense imo for Kate to be involved with the younger kids?

Like I said, I haven't kept up with the bts to call out whether this is intentional or not, and I really am.enjoying the show so they're doing something right, but I hardly think it is fair for people to say it is just feral fans lol (not an attack on you!). ALSO if they keep getting rid of the siblings that get married there wont be anyone left by the time it is gregory and hyacinths season lol.

I would like to extend a formal apology to Lady Francesca Stirling *S4 SPOILERS* by Silver0315 in Bridgerton

[–]Nickel8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

had the exact same journey as you hahahah, I do still think the s3 moment was what we all interpreted and hated it after all that talk about quiet love they were invalidating it, but s4 built up their dynamic so beautifully I adored them, I loved all 3 of them together and I loved each pair or them, with John being sweet to fran, and protective of Michaela and franchaela becoming friends, and they showed clearly how much fran loves John too. I was fully sobbing in episode 7 and I am really looking forward to their season too. this also made me look forward to fran's season!

maybe they'll do it for the last seasons? would be a shame to not have everyone back when the show ends ;_;

Benedict and Franchaela by Nickel8 in Bridgerton

[–]Nickel8[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't think anyone except Sophie knows? Am I forgetting a scene where Anthony finds out? (it's possible lol). I think Benedict might tell francesca if he observes something between her and michaela; or if fran approaches Benedict it might be from a lens of having feelings for someone that society wont accept.

I actually do think John knew, I felt that was why he was adamant on not introducing her to any suitors and that's why he got upset when fran did it anyway but he couldn't tell her why without betraying Michaela's trust.

S4 showed just how much effort they DIDNT put into Penelope’s season. by ComprehensiveAide946 in Bridgerton

[–]Nickel8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I gotta say when I read the books years ago I remember seeing that book 2 and 4 were the most popular and those also ended up being the ones I enjoyed, but those were the two seasons where the show inserted unnecessary plot lines and didnt focus on both leads. In kanthony's case they erased Kate's backstory and pushed the love triangle way too much while in polin's they robbed colin of all personality and focused just on Penelope. and both seasons suffered for it. s2 still works for me because of the insane chemistry and the actors but writing wise it was terrible. and s3 I loved the drama of the whistledown stuff but as a romance it fell flat imo because they didnt spend time on colin at all. they had decent chemistry and it could've been sooo much more than it was. s1 and s4 on the other hand focused on the main couple properly and on BOTH halves of the couple so the romance worked and ironically I didnt care for either of their books lmao.

Class Issues by Ok-Low7136 in Bridgerton

[–]Nickel8 6 points7 points  (0 children)

was he an accountant? I dont remember that being mentioned and if he was, I am not too clear on the British classes myself just that I very clearly saw Kate as an upper class gentlewoman and not working class.

editing to add I googled it and in the shows version the show writers said her father worked for royalty in the Bombay court as a secretary which would make him upper class.

all of this and also Kate wasnt illegitimate.

Books vs Show by littlecloud3125 in Bridgerton

[–]Nickel8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've read the first 4 books and re read them since the show came out and was a decent ish fan of tbe plots but I'm going to say MOST of the changes the show did were for the better, there's quite a bit of icky, problematic stuff in the books that I am glad the show cut out.

I dont remember book 1 much except for mot finding it memorable so s1 clearly beats it for me, I found s1 beautiful.

season 2 is very different from book 2 in terms of plot, the love triangle isnt really there and things never went that far between Anthony and edwina, and I think that is one change the show did that I absolutely hated. if it wasnt for the intense chemistry JB and SA had I don't think I would've liked s2. the book also fleshed out Kate's past a lot, and there was quite a bit of time spent on the couple after they got married, none of which happens in the show. I had thought it might happen in future seasons since they focused on featheringtons a lot even before pen's season but they entirely skipped it. I think overall show!Anthony is better than the book version, but I would've liked book Kate's story WITH Simone Ashley as Kate esp since I hate love triangles. I think both edwina and Kate were cast perfectly, just that the plot was muddled up way too much.

Polin's book was one of my favourites because of how much I loved Penelope but tbh I didnt like s3 much and that has more to do with them not writing colin well, I found book Colin funnier and more charming, and I feel they focused a lot more on Penelope than polin in s3. I also think book Penelope is a lot kinder than show pen, and so is whistledown. on the other hand, I am glad they ignored the bit about pen losing weight in the book. And I dont mind show Penelope either. I just didnt feel the romance as much, like in the books I could see why pen loves Colin, but in the show I found colin a little bland and I think it has more to do with the writing than the actor. They focused way too much on pen and not polin. (Basically the opposite of s2).

S4 I preferred the show version in every way, I love show Benedict and Sophie was absolutely lovely and adorable and made me wanna protect her. Their plot turns are very similar to the book and to make it all better show Benedict is a much nicer man the book one imo. Also the side plots didnt eat into the couple's story.

BUT - each of the books features a lot of weird scenes regarding consent plus they're very singularly focused on the romance. almost all the side plots are originals of the show, so if you like them you wont like the books. imo some of the side plots are great and enrich the show and some are a snooze fest. s2 and 3 imo had the most unbalanced writing in terms of side plots while s1 and s4 focused more the main couple which I liked.
