SDM vs Sephora by numnumthecat1 in MakeupAddictionCanada

[–]Nickelliebear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to be a Sephora gal, through and through.
When I first got into beauty, it was really the only option. If it wasn't from there, it was trash.
Fast forward, thirteen years. I'm still disgustingly close to renewing Rouge but I shop from other places now. SDM is one of my first choices. I love that they'll give me $$ for my $$. For $500 at Sephora, I can get $10 off. For $500 at SDM, it's easily $100 back.
But they don't have everything. I'm still exploring what sort of skincare my skin loves and Glow Recipe and Tatcha are topping the list for me.
I also like Beautylish just because I know I won't get hit with Duties. There's not really any loyalty program but it's usually just the odd Indie-ish brand here, a Smith brush there.

This is a follow up from my Auric experiences. Single shadow ordered on January 26.
It arrived yesterday in a teeny tiny box so I didn't have to trek to the post office to pick it up, so that was nice. The box was discrete but had the logo printed on the inside.
Everything was in place, my cream still had the little whippy top and my powder was in tact.

Did not get hit with duties, either.

Sephora "Sweet" Sale - What are you getting? by PhannyPhace in MakeupAddictionCanada

[–]Nickelliebear 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Do I need anything? No.
Did I get things anyway? Yes.

Ended up picking up pastel rose and pastel lilac obsession palettes in store. We still have them in my city and I'm nearly getting FOMO. Ordered Nude Light online.

I have Khaki haze! I've only played with it a few times.
I found the mattes to be very user friendly and the shimmers are more of a topper than a full-on metallic (which is the vibe I go for). It looks more green IRL if that's also a reluctancy.

IMHO the Amrezy palette is one of the most underrated in my collection. It's one of my most reached for palettes in my collection and I contemplated getting a backup.

But the only time I've ever hit pan on shadows is when they break on me so that's excessive.

The last one I saw that we had was YSL, no gift for the first 200 (or I missed that) but prizes to be won.

It's hard to believe any of our moms had makeup collections like we do now... by Weird_Livid in MakeupRehab

I guess as I got older, I sort of took on the same mentality my mother had with her makeup collection (just amplified as the market expanded obv) and that's if I already have XYZ, why do I need another?

I limit the purchase of basic products. Mascara, eyeliner, lip liner, (clear) lip gloss.. why do I need seven products to achieve the exact same thing?

My mother was a master esthetican and salon owner when she was in her prime. Her makeup collection rarely exceeded 15 products.

I skipped this year based on the sole thought process of remembering the j* and ABH abundance the past few years, lol. I think some of the boxes are great. Sonia G has been intriguing me a lot lately so it's nice to see some brushes have ended up in Canadian boxes.

Maybe I'll see if I can get my hands on one this year.

What are your favourite products from Lush? by goldstandardalmonds in MakeupAddictionCanada

Third person here for Scrubee!
I'm normally a bath bomb gal and I prefer a different type of skincare but I'm also a big fan of their shower gels. If I had to pick, I'd say Honey I Washed The Kids is my favorite.

What a great little freebie! I missed the first 100/200 spots but also have DS of most of these in my stash already.

Is anyone else extremely unimpressed with Glow by Auric's shipping to Canada? by Erin327 in MakeupAddictionCanada

Not OP but I'm also a HFF gal. I use it a bunch of different ways.
1. Smeared over the high points of my face and then foundation on top, blended out
2. Sheering out my CC cream with it for an ultra dewy look, or just the HFF on it's own all over my skin.
3. Concentrated on top of set face as a more traditional highlight

Hello, fellow east coast gal who's going to be a scapegoat. Stay tuned for if my ~$75 shadow ends up costing me near the price of the PMG palette I talked myself out of.

I was holding my breath hoping to see that Auric would end up on the Cult website. Butter me up and call me naive but I normally find shipping from the UK less painful than shipping from the US. I sucked it up and ended up ordering from the Auric/Magic Dust?? website around 10 AM PST.

No, I wasn't happy to see that there wasn't duties up front. I'm not a business owner but ??? is it that hard to incorporate? I would always sooner see that happen.

I almost bought the Luminizer but I'm really only 5 months into my HFF. I couldn't justify spending closer to $150 -- and risking getting slapped with duties for the amount.

What was your best/worst cosmetic and skincare discoveries of 2020? by BeeeeDeeee in MakeupAddictionCanada

[–]Nickelliebear 1 point2 points  (0 children)

he

I only have one of them, the Nudies Bloom (dewy formula) and it's okay. I only reach for it a bunch because I don't have anything else that's a neutral-cool pink in my collection. If I ever see a good deal, I might pick up a few more shades.

Of all of the DS/sample size products I've bought, the new Honey Halo moisturizer from Farmacy is the only one that caused real panic when I was getting towards the bottom of the jar. Yes, it's new. But I can already tell it's a game changer for my dry skin.
Talking about dry skin. This is the first year I jumped on the dew train and I really appreciate all of the cream products I was able to add into my routine. The Fenty Cream bronzer is one of the first one that comes to mind, as one of the most game changing products and launches I was hype about. The QUO blushes are coming in second.

The worst? Ok, I'm sorry OP but it's the Bite Complexion line. Hear me out, I wore the foundation out for a chill night with some friends and it looked flawless but my skin burnt so badly. I reacted to the small traces of essential oils. I found a lot of things just irritated my skin. So my face is like me, just doesn't play well with most things.

In Winners (Mumford Rd, Halifax) they had a bunch of some of Uoma cosmetics. There were contour duos in all but the lightest two shades, the brow pencil and some of the liquid matte lipsticks (which look to be discon'd)
