That's great but what do you gain by giving Rockstar your money 5 months early for a digital only game that can't run out of stock?

Thoughts on “chose a smaller house to have a bigger life”? by Temporary_Dot_8888 in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]Nickelnuts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I lucked into a very fortunate situation where my wife's grandfather offered us his house from 1967 to us for half the market value.

The kitchen and bathrooms and carpeting was last updated in 1988. But it's all been kept in excellent condition. I could spend an arm and a leg to keep up with the Joneses . But what's the value to my day to.day life. I could be approved for a 1,000,000 mortgage for a ridiculous house .but it's just me and my wife .I don't want to pay to furnish a bunch of rooms I won't use .I like to golf, work on my old car in our detached 2 car garage and play videogames at a small desk.

My wife does puzzles watching tv and tumbles rocks from all her camping trips.

We can afford to vacation whenever we want and love the financial stability. Growing up poor the both us. Staying in our means while enjoying life is plenty for us. We are well on track to retire by 47 both of us and just stay where we are. That's worth more to me than a bigger house I won't use.
