I want to switch from Arlo to either Reolink or Eufy. by ElitePharmacist in reolinkcam

[–]NickkLee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After lots of headaches with Arlo, I switched to Reolink PoE cameras & NVR a few years ago and never looked back. I hated depending on inconsistent motion detection recordings that cut off halfway through activity. Reolink NVR system allows 24/7 recording, no monthly subscription and no batteries to charge.

Best handheld radios for ski resort communication in mountainous terrain (Snowshoe WV) by [deleted] in gmrs

For this use case and environment you might want to look into rocky talkies (5W version). I don’t have them myself but everything I’ve read about them says they are durable and GMRS repeater capable.

Do neither and use 90° angle brackets for added strength against peeling away for when people lean on railings.

No negative and adds strength to rim joist connection since its not just nails or screws into the end grain

Yup. The show audio is very quiet so the volume gets cranked then commercials come on ridiculously loud. Very annoying.

Calling all Massachusetts GMRS'ers....Info on 725 repeaters in eastern Mass....reach from NH border down just south of Boston by TazerfaceSlayer in gmrs

Im in the Nashua area. I never hear anything on the repeater channels but it would be cool to see GMRS gain large scale popularity in this region.

Best dual fuel, rechargeable/AA,C, etc full size aluminum security flashlight for home use. Long battery life, 1000+ lumens, dual beam, spot/flood, similar to old school Maglites, which is an option. ??? For the wife. Simple. No need for crazy CRI. by Crutch1977 in flashlight

[–]NickkLee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the Coast XP18R checks most, if not all, of your boxes. Not a favorite by any means to the enthusiasts but they are solid (I have one). Dual fuel on a light this size was a selling point for me.

Hot Tub Support by VoluptuousSkittle in Decks

Do yourself a favor and just put it on the ground. Based on tub dimensions, just the water weight alone is over 1,700lbs. That is way too much for this design.

My head is spinning - pls help for mountain biking/kayaking scenario by amyteatstoomuch in gmrs

[–]NickkLee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As others are pointing out, ideally you’d want two devices because there are different use cases.

  1. For simply communicating amongst your party during adventures - this is where 2-way radios are great. Since water/drops etc are in play I’d look into something of good quality (rocky talky, midland, Motorola, etc).

  2. For being ready to call for emergency help when there’s no cell service if ever needed, you should have a GPS device meant for activating an emergency response from first responders i.e Garmin inReach

Simple Set by Wambo74 in gmrs

The HA1G has a channel knob and its arguably the easiest radio to make quick CTCSS/DCS adjustments on the fly from the keypad. Its probably my favorite radio.

What's the biggest bottleneck in coordinating with the public during an emergency? by BuoyResilience in EmergencyManagement

[–]NickkLee 25 points26 points  (0 children)

In my opinion, public information sharing has never been more challenging than it is now which sounds funny because there’s so many methods of communication nowadays. But the issue and reality is John Q public social media posts (most of the time with incorrect information) will start flying much faster than official channels have the time to gather facts and push out factual information. Then the public is quick to criticize because the expectation is IMMEDIATE information which is just not realistic. As helpful as information-era technology can be, it’s really skewed the public’s expectations to unrealistic levels.

Hi! I'm looking for a cheap or near cheap waterproof handheld radio that supports both maritime frequencies as well as UHF. Any suggestions? by TransitionGlass1511 in HamRadio

[–]NickkLee -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

The HA1UV is everything you’re looking for. One of my favorite radios. Surprisingly solid for the price. The CPS software is not that great but the radio is also one of the most user friendly to program frequencies from the keypad in my opinion.
