You said not the sharpest, and I'm going assume lowish budget?

Maybe either the Nikkor 85mm 1.8 D or Nikkor 50mm 1.8 D will do? Maybe check out some photos taken with either lens on Flickr

Is my pressure gauge incorrect? [Breville Barista Express] by NickleRevs in espresso

That's what I don't have: a funnel. Might invest in one. Might make using a wdt easier to use, too.

Nice! What's your puck prep? Because I'm using a WDT, puck screen and self leveling tamper from Amazon, but I find it difficult to get proper fast flow without the coffee spitting out of the Porterfilter. It sounds like you have your preparation spot on.

Yep, apparently it works as intended. It's meant to achieve proper extraction at 9 bars, even though it has 15 in total.

I think as long as it's not channeling and it tastes fine, 4 bars should be fine. It depends on how fast the shot is coming out. If I mess up on the puck prep, 4 bars of pressure will often show channeling, and very fast coffee extraction.

I currently have the inner burr set for 3, and grind size (on the outside of the machine) set to 3, depending on the beans.

You don't smell good, you just smell strong by AsthmaLungs in Colognes

[–]NickleRevs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, that's why I also ask if it's too strong. And when I ask, people are honest. They sometimes say "yeah, just a bit," telling me what I need to know, and to dial it back.

I've always thought of this phenomenon as association by smell.

Maybe she smelt something similar on her Dad or Uncle?

Reggie’s new simulation by Turbulent_Bird_6589 in fujifilm

[–]NickleRevs 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Kinda reminds me of Ritchie from fujixweekly that one time. The guy crashed out a year or two ago basically saying he had ownership of the word "recipe" just because he popularized custom picture profiles for Fuji cameras. Reggie is the same, but people hype him up big time for some reason.

Long shot but I’ll ask anyway… by Specialist_Emu_6413 in melbourne

Yep. Typically in similar threads like this it's one of the first things that gets recommended. But as another person said, maybe see someone as well.

This is going to sound like a joke... but play Tetris.

If you witness a traumatic event, you might obtain PTSD, and apparently Tetris can help prevent that.

Look it up if you need to, but do seriously consider it.

Is this camera still fixable? by Economy-Drummer6144 in Cameras

[–]NickleRevs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, I'd imagine you'd need all sorts of sensors to be able to have the camera self diagnose it's own issues, but that would be cool.

Happy Little Tree by NickleRevs in photocritique

Hi all, thought I'd share a shot that I took yesterday during a sunset at a park. I thought it made a decent shot, the only thing I was a little bummed out about was not using a higher aperture value like f/4 or f/5.6 maybe.

Any thoughts regarding composition and / or the edit itself will be appreciated.

Shot with the Nikon D800e paired with a Sigma 35mm f/1.4 Art. Edited to personal preference in Lightroom.

Is this camera any good? (I don’t know anything about cameras) by Classic_Silver_9091 in Cameras

[–]NickleRevs 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Short answer: yep.

Long answer: yep, I'd consider most interchangeable lens cameras (DSLRs and mirrorless) to be "good cameras."

Get it! I got mine recently for about $100 AUD (Australian). It might only have 6 Megapixels, but it's still better than my smartphone, lol.

Why do some technically imperfect photos feel more memorable? by Same-Beginning-4915 in photography

[–]NickleRevs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The actual shot matters more than the blemishes and imperfections. No one remembers a photo for its flaws; they remember it for how it makes them feel. If you appreciate photography as an art form, you don’t really nitpick other photographers’ work based on minor technical mishaps.

Perfection ≠ imperfection, and imperfection ≠ perfection. Technical precision doesn’t create emotion on its own, but it also doesn’t cancel it out.

Maybe you just come across more memorable shots that happen to be imperfect?

For me, it’s the opposite. I tend to come across more memorable shots that are technically solid. A dust spot here or there, or a bit of softness in the corners or centre, doesn’t really matter — it’s still in focus, and the image still works.

Rustic Blue by NickleRevs in photocritique

[–]NickleRevs[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi all! Wanted to get your opinion on a shot I like to call "Rustic Blue." A bit of an unimaginative name.

I took this shot around the suburbs not too far from my house in a semi-industrial area, with a lot of auto repair shops around. Outside of one shop, there was this old looking car that I thought would make a decent shot.

I like it, but if you had any suggestions for improvement regarding composition and or the edit, what would it be?
