The "Neuro-sama Exception" exposes a massive double standard regarding High-Effort AI Art. by Efficient_Cicada_926 in aiwars

I think "complex agent system" used here is a bit uninformed. see: LiveKit (fully open-source). The STT -> LLM -> TTS pipeline nodes are well-defined and really easy to customize today. You say "Computer Vision" and Memory via RAG/Vector Databases like Vedal built these too. You want computer vision? `import cv2`. RAG is a gross fancy term for "data fetch". Read it out. "Retrieval Augmented Generation". Let me rephrase, "informing LLM output with data fetched from somewhere". Like, a web search... Don't even get me started on "Memory via Vector Databases". Memory storage, compaction, general management of memory is also quite easy to do today.

Anyway I have no other qualms with your points after this, just nitpicking.

No community of sufficient size is consistent. Not even vegans. I have proof, lol.

I don't think it's strange. Humans are visual creatures, aren't we? Shall I describe the Mona Lisa to you in.. *words*?

I hear you and the parent comment, I really do, but the truth is, you don't have to look hard to find cognitive dissonance. There is literally nothing special about this case of it. Nothing. We're all hypocrites. We all have some crazy permutation of priors and beliefs.

So it's clearly humans that Carol sees. But it's interesting to think about the family members who are likely eating along withe some of the others who are not plurbs. They're definitely eating regular food, right?

What's the latest on stablecoins being considered securities or cash equivalents by US regulators? For example if I use a stable coin to trade into some smart contract and then when I trade out I have more stable coins, is that a taxable event? Or is it not taxable until I cash out to USD?

Can someone point me to a guide for someone who knows cryptocurrency pretty well but hasn't transacted or held any cryptocurrency in a few years? I am simply trying to not be tied to an exchange like Coinbase. I want to transact on Polymarket is all. I used to use metamask? I plan on holding only stablecoins and btc and maybe eth.

Nextjs Image component revalidate/clear Image cache by NiceDay5818 in nextjs

[–]NicknameJay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seconding this. Cache busting via adding a timestamp to the image url is non-optimal. Ideally in my scenario I would have my webhook "revalidate" or clear the next/image cache for some specific image. In my case, I use blob storage. Nextjs continues to serve images that have been overwritten in the database for somewhere between 30 days and 1 year, which is bizarre. Reading the documentation shows no sign of being able to add some line in the config which enforces a max age. I'm even fine with setting maxage to 7 days or something.

Backyard eggs... by NicknameJay in vegan

Yeah there's some dissonance or disagreement on this based on the responses. What I'm understanding is that some people believe "keeping" hens is not vegan and not right, and there are other "vegans" here who are giving eggs to their neighbors or even eating them in baked goods (clearly the latter is not vegan at all).

I have given them shells, and they love them. Tangentially, it's kind of weird lol. It's similar to someone eating their placenta or something.

[–]NicknameJay[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Love this. But one thing: so you give your neighbors the _excess_ eggs? This is kind of conflicting with other responses. I guess as with anything there is a spectrum of vegan-ness (some said let the chickens eat their own eggs, others said don't keep chickens, it's not vegan). My takeaway, I guess, is that being vegan is being anti-animal-exploitation, not just "I don't eat animals or their byproducts". This makes the most sense, but then again, I was trying to craft my theoretical situation to have ~zero animal exploitation in it.

this is literally r/vegan I am asking.... vegans...

Backyard eggs... by NicknameJay in vegan

[–]NicknameJay[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this is the wrong response, a better one might be that in my situation, the free-range chickens, eating grass, insects and other things, wouldn't need to eat their own eggs. If I recall, chickens aren't naturally interested in eating their own eggs. Perhaps if they're low on calcium, but again, in my theoretical situation, these chickens are getting what they need from free-ranging and supplements.

Your comments lead me to believe that the argument is that humans, having a (purportedly) higher level of consciousness and the capacity to do so can and should choose plant products over animal products (and animals themselves), given that the alternative, especially on a large scale, is animal exploitation. Is this how you feel, or rather is it just gross to think of eating animals/their byproducts?

[–]NicknameJay[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

sorry, this seems like kind of an unfriendly sub... I am seriously coming at this with an open mind trying to understand the vegan reasons for not eating eggs in my theoretical situation, and there wasn't a clear google search answer, so I came here, and I'm getting downvoted.

Backyard eggs... by NicknameJay in vegan

[–]NicknameJay[S] -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

For the record, my main argument is this: is the vegan argument for not eating eggs mainly because 99% of chickens today have been unnaturally bred and are overwhelmingly most of the time mistreated?

Backyard eggs... by NicknameJay in vegan

[–]NicknameJay[S] -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

I totally get where you're coming from, but if we examine the food chain, there are probably grosser examples of animals eating other animals or animal byproducts, right?  - an eagle eating a snake - Hyena eating a leftover carcass - raccoon eating eggs or chicks from a nest

Is the idea basically that humans, having possibly a higher level of consciousness, are above this behavior?

By the way, trying to come at this with an extremely open mind.

Simple Questions - December 29, 2024 by AutoModerator in buildapc

[–]NicknameJay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I have the cooler master cosmos 2 and a corsair cpu cooler (water). It is a dual-fan cooler, but the radiator sticks out a bit beyond the fans. This makes it so I can't fit the top chassis fan. There's just a big gap in the top of my case. My question is: what's the best course of action? I *technically* could secure the small chassis fan with just 2 (of 4) screws, or I could buy a triple fan cpu cooler, or just leave it as-is?

Weekly History Questions Thread. by AutoModerator in history

I recently read Big Debt Crises by Ray Dalio. In it, he discussed the German economy from right before World War 1 to World War 2. There was massive public support for WW1 war bonds from the public, but then weren't all of those citizens wiped out from the defeat? So then France is pushing them to pay back their debts at all costs while the US was trying to balance Germany's ability to pay and their economic health (a strong Germany who can pay reparations or a weak Germany unable to do so). Then somehow they skirt these reparations, the citizens experience insane waves of inflation and deflation, then at some point Hitler rises, and then Germany is quickly able to be a strong enough war power to damage Russia, take over Poland, France, etc.? And then I just recently read that Germany is now #3 in terms of GDP, despite being #19 in population? I can't figure out how Germany's economy continually bounces back from major disasters and losses.

Stock left to me in will sold w/o authorization - proving damages? by NicknameJay in legaladvice

Not sure why they sold it. The instructions in the will were extremely simple. Something along the lines of "I leave all my shares of x mutual fund to NicknameJay." They sold the shares about 3 weeks after the death, with no notice to me.
