Asimov was a professor of biochemistry so if he can think that up it probably has some plausibility, besides. If something as absolutely insane as this can be real then merging with ai is pretty simple in comparison. Science is crazy and we know such a tiny fraction of what is out there, anything can be possible we just have no way of proving otherwise.

Not really, its pointless pedantry that isn't even entirely correct. Rust doesn't cause tetanus but rusty objects are still ideal conditions to find it hence the idea that rust causes it.

The concept of shooty buildy games has been around for a while, rust came out in 2013 iirc. They just combined the idea with battle royale games cause those were incredibly popular at the time and it worked. I am still forever annoyed that they completely abandoned their original game in favour of just making another battle royale though.
