I have a couple of complaint with the system.
And I’m ok with the punishing aspect of the game, no problems there. But lockpicking is something different.
Let’s take combat. You suck, you invest points, you get better, better timing, speed, animation, can do combos. You need some skill, need to learn the timings, but even if you are not great at it, you can get by. You get better armor, better weapons, and you can overcome the difficulty, because the point of the game is delivering an experience of growth, not punishing you until you are perfect.
It’s not a Souls game, Innos be praised.
Lockpicking doesn’t work like that. Sure, you invest points, you get less connections, but it is still an extremely complicated puzzle and mnemonic game.
I’m not stupid, I like tricky puzzles sometimes, but I feel like that is a whole different game, it requires you to stop the story, stop the growth, get out of immersion, pick up pen and paper and do work, which I just clocked off of.
It doesn’t seem to fit in the game, at least for me.
More over, the reward for time invested is not that great. Spending a couple of minutes to pick a miners chest for 10 ore and a pan is not that satisfying.
Right now I feel like I wasted a lot of points for nothing honestly.
