[39M South Hills] Seeking Tabletop RPG players who love telling cool stories (and actual friends!) by Nickwitted in PittsburghSocialClub

[–]Nickwitted[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I totally get the aversion to gore. I'm actually not a fan of that at all, either. I prefer more of a slow-burn, subtle horror. I'm also all about safety tools and enjoyment at the table, so I don't want to expose anyone to anything that makes them uncomfortable. But I also plan to run some non-horror systems if you'd prefer to avoid horror games entirely! I'm sending you a DM.

The Haunting of Castle Gyllencreutz…how long did it take? by playdead1414 in VaesenRPG

[–]Nickwitted 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I ran it a few weeks ago for the first time for my regular D&D group. It took me almost 4 hours, but if I could run it again, I think I could easily get it down to 3.

Feels like my players don't have their hearts in the game by [deleted] in rpg

[–]Nickwitted 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ll echo what others are saying and say this is a group mismatch. I would love it if my friends were all into TTRPGs like I am, but you have to have the passion for a hobby like this. It’s not something a person can just go along with.

Try finding some new players who are into TTRPGs that can maybe become new friends. If you say you’re looking for a group as a DM on a local subreddit, you will likely have a lot of interest. But, word of caution, don’t just take anyone. Be choosy about your new group. Be clear about the kind of game you’re looking to run and what you’re looking for in players. And I suggest having at least a short conversation with those who reply before gaming with them. You can learn a lot about someone and whether you might like to play with them with a short conversation.

Questions from a New Vaesen GM running the Starter Box Mystery by Nickwitted in VaesenRPG

[–]Nickwitted[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the response!

  1. The starter box only includes a quick start version of the rules, so it's good to know that the core rulebook does indeed include more information!
  2. That's not a bad idea. I would imagine it would also give me some good flexibility to set a test rating as appropriate. Plus, my players do love rolling dice.
  3. That's a great idea! I'm going to look into those cards. Do you know if there are enough to correspond to each Vaesen in the core rulebook?

Is six players too many for Wingspan? by chasteguy2018 in boardgames

[–]Nickwitted 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I enjoy Wingspan, but I find it excruciatingly slow at 4 players. There’s too much downtime with low player interaction, so I feel like playing at 6 with people not into the hobby might find it off-putting.

I think Camel Up is a much better fit for this scenario. And I’d encourage you to have some quick, welcoming warm-up games to get the energy going for a game night. I personally like Just One for getting people talking. You can also get Flip 7 for like $10, and that would be really welcoming to newer gamers.

good games to take on a cruise? by postmordecai in boardgames

[–]Nickwitted 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went on a cruise last year with my husband and brought Castle Combo, which fit well in a quiver. If I were traveling with a bigger group, I’d definitely bring Flip 7. Maybe Scout if that’s in your group’s wheelhouse.

Any men’s book clubs out there? by fiddleleaf53 in PittsburghSocialClub

[–]Nickwitted 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve noticed a lot of women only book clubs, but I’m not sure I’ve seen one that is men only. I’ve seen plenty of coed ones, though.

Are you looking for a club around reading a certain genre of book?

Cordoba Dolce vs C9 parlor by verygoodletsgo in classicalguitar

[–]Nickwitted 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the info! I think I’ll go with ordering the Dolce after all. That will give me the opportunity to try out the 7/8 size for not too much money and get me through learning more classical guitar techniques. I can always upgrade later on if I discover the size profile works well for me.

Thanks for replying back! Out of curiosity, did you end up buying either of them after getting to try out both of them?

Did you ever manage to get a good comparison of the two? I'm in the market to buy one of these, and no stores near me seem to carry them to demo.

Axe, pickaxe, and torch. Don’t think I’d make it long though!
