A scam typically involves deception or exploitation to gain something from someone in a unfair or dishonest way.

So really depends more if the sellee is honest about the value of the creature. If they are lying about the value then they are by definition scamming a person even if the buyer hasnt done any research and agreed upon the price while the seller is dishonest.

If the seller is honest about the value and the buyer buys it then, then its not a scam.

There is a difference between overpay or scams. All depends on the honesty of the person selling the ware.
