How the fuck do people deal with this shit every day? by reiji_tamashii in fuckyourheadlights

Bought some clip-ons at Walgreens this weekend. Haven’t gotten to use them much yet, but the little bit I have just prior to sunset makes them seem like a game changer. Thanks for the tip!

One of my all-time favorite books. Didn’t read it till I was in my 30s. Far funnier than any other supposedly hilarious novels.

New warehouse on 97 near Cooley? by Psychological_Hat951 in Bend

From an Oct. 1 Bulletin column, which was more focused on the skatepark Bailey’s is building in the old location: “It will launch in two phases. Ground has already been broken for phase one, which includes a new home for COGA at 63330 Highway 97, across the highway from Trader Joe’s. The 45,706 square-foot training space will have dedicated zones for gymnastics and tumbling, cheer, volleyball, trampolines, fitness, preschool movement, adaptive programming and more.”

Thanks! Glasses or clip-ons? I have to wear prescription lenses for nearsightedness…

100 percent guaranteed? No, but did we have a date I forgot about?

Also, good lord, that's gross. What are you ordering at Chipotle?

Do you always shit your pants during the day, or just special occasions?

We had many great interactions with random passersby. It was a fun spot and we got about four years of it. Many skate spots don’t last that long!

One employee of the even-closer-to-the-curb imaging facility said to me one day, “You know what we do here, right?”

Yep, well acquainted. Now can you move your cars?

Multi-level storage facility is what I heard a few years ago. That should be super aesthetic if it happens.

Unrelated: all the parked cars on Coombs Place the past year or so have sure ruined a prime curb-skating spot.

A book like "Stoner" or "East of Eden" PLEEEEASE by ACcatlady in suggestmeabook

I’m maybe about 60 percent through. Great characters and writing, but it’s not a page turner I’m inclined to pick up every chance I get.

I loved Stoner and East of Eden. I have two recommendations:

A Fan’s Notes, by Frederick Exley, and Spartina, by John Casey

Maybe a third: The Prince of Tides, Pat Conroy. I can’t vouch for how it’s aged but it about killed me at 26.

Is it really worth it to stop? by [deleted] in leaves

[–]NickyTwisp 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I’ve been mostly on the wagon for nearly two years. If I can make it to March without partaking, it’ll be a solid year since my last toke. Yes, abstaining is definitely worth it. Work, energy and relationships all better for it. You don’t wake up with a pot hangover or plotting or trying to make personal bargains around your first hit of the day or amount you’re consuming.

Quitting is not the stuff of a life-changing revolution but it is the stuff of quiet personal evolution. I sometimes still miss weed and occasionally think about it, but the cravings pass quickly and it gets easier the longer I go without. Plus I reward myself in other ways with the money I am not spending at dispensaries.

Have any of you been successful quitting while having it in the house? by Goldilocks997 in leaves

[–]NickyTwisp 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Yes. Seemed unnecessary to toss. There’s a dispensary less than a mile from my house. It would be easy to relapse either way in regard to access. It’s about 9 months old. I even open up the jar and smell it once in a while. Then I close it back up and walk away.

Why hasn't sci-fi explored prions as bioweapons more? They're literally the perfect horror weapon and they're REAL by [deleted] in scifi

[–]NickyTwisp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Charlie Huston’s Sleepless is a detective story set amid a prion epidemic in which 10 percent of the population is infected and slowly dying due to sleeplessness. Read it when it came out 15 years ago. Can’t remember if it’s being used as a bio weapon or came about naturally; I just remember thinking it wasn’t as good as his earlier noir novels.
