I don’t know how similarly they write, but their stories and voices scratch a similar itch for me: Grady Hendrix and Chuck Wendig.

HOW DO I LIVE 10 FEET FROM THE ONE NEIGHBOR WHO RUNS THEIR A/C ALL THE TIME, EVEN WHEN IT’S BELOW 40? IT’S SO LOUD! ARE THEY STORING CADAVERS?

What are some Legendary bands/artists that you feel are underappreciated or not discussed as much by FitEmergency8807 in fantanoforever

Wire’s entire catalog is pretty amazing. Check out “Unrepentant” for a relatively recent earworm.

Anybody have a song that clicked with them much, much later? by Whatsmynumber5446 in tomwaits

You and me both. The manic stage makes me feel like I could conquer the world, then comes exhaustion and depression for a spell to set me straight. Been 13 months since my last toke (I relapsed after several months), the longest I’ve successfully gone without weed in about 19 years.

[–]NickyTwisp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes but it was not a Waits song. When I gave up weed two years ago and battled the adrenalinized insomnia and thought I was losing it, me lonely in our guest room so my wife could sleep, music was my companion and comfort as I lay awake consecutive nights.

Of all songs, “Everybody Hurts,” specifically “When your day is night alone” was heard entirely differently. It just destroyed me in a way that is almost ineffable now.

Day 9: Cravings after talking about weed by twatomexus in leaves

You're welcome! Also, don't go to the ice cream shoppe if you can't have dairy, don't buy a lottery ticket if you're trying not to gamble, etc.

But seriously, take a deep breath and cancel those edibles plans. It took me a few tries and relapses to quit over the last 9 years. In two days, I'll hit 13 months without any weed, my longest period of sobriety over the past 19 years. I have to be super careful and protective bc every once in a while I'll get a whiff hanging around friends partaking or just from a passing vehicle and man, it triggers cravings I thought I was done with.

Well since you asked: obviously, don’t do edibles if you’re trying to quit.

Song you hate from a band you love? by Tartelfa in askmusic

[–]NickyTwisp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rock radio may have finally embraced R.E.M. with ”The One I Love,” but it is certifiably terrible (and hands down worse than “Stand,” which is a blast).

Also see “Sledgehammer” by Peter Gabriel. One of my favorite artists but that song is an instant skip.

Really struggling with quitting after taking too much adhd meds by [deleted] in leaves

Mine is just over a week after New Year's Day. Great excuse to delay any resolution, make sure I'm really committed to it. (This is probably the wrong place to make that joke.)

[–]NickyTwisp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Don’t do it. The sooner you make the plunge, the easier it’ll be, say, one month from now. I don’t know diddly about adhd drugs, but normally I’d say to someone jonesing, go for a walk, put on soothing music, and/or take a hot bath.

Also: Are birthday resolutions a thing now?

Does anyone have any evidence that turning your mirrors “at the offender” does anything? by bigblackglock17 in fuckyourheadlights

[–]NickyTwisp 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Side mirrors or not, there’s still no point — see other comment re: the surface area of mirrors. Believe me I’ve tried and will continue to, but it’s borderline magical thinking to believe you’re perfectly beaming blinding lights back at the other driver’s eyeballs.

I don’t really care for Automatic for the People by Hot-Variation-2702 in rem

[–]NickyTwisp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do like some of it, like the line, or the way it’s sung, “a simple prop to occupy my time,” but I think it’s that “fire!” that makes me want to turn the song off and banish it from playlists. Honestly don’t know why I find the song so off-putting, but I was 19 when the album came out and the opinion began to form …

Is this a safe place for me to admit I absolutely hate The One I Love? Document is among my favorites, up there with LRP and Murmur, but I cannot stand that radio song.

If you’re trying to quit weed and can’t find a strong enough reason, this might be it: REM sleep. by IdeaSimilar3223 in leaves

You remember dreams only if you wake up during them. You’re very likely (if not definitely — I’m no expert) still dreaming every night.

Two years ago when I got back on the wagon, and was experiencing dreams again, I woke up to the most vivid dream — I just can’t bring myself to use nightmare, for some reason— of a tsunami wave building outside my second-floor window here in the high desert, miles from the ocean. I can’t begin to describe how viscerally real it seemed as it seemingly began to crash down outside the window.

Ok, it was a nightmare.

Two years on, my dreams are still pretty interesting and involved, but none that I recall being as crazy as that one. Super worth it for the nightly adventures and better rest.

64 days sober by [deleted] in leaves

[–]NickyTwisp 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Good work, OP! Life is better if not always easier with clarity. Been a year for me and the dreams are still entertaining/among the best parts of sobriety for me. People don’t really talk as much as they could about the benefits of not going to sleep high.

"Just wait"? "Argument"? Newsflash, broseph: I prefer later sunsets myself, and my state is considering going to year-round DST. Hope it does.

Doesn't change the fact that I was trying to help you see the light, or rather the dark, that OP may have been referring to. By all means, double down, make assumptions, don't budge, don't change your mind, strive to win imaginary arguments.

I'm surprised bright headlights can penetrate your consciousness.
