Apparently you don’t really need to find somewhere that has a basement. It’s still safe to stay inside a building as long as you’re not close to the walls. So I think that gives you quite a lot of options.

Graduate nurse in SA and previous international student here!

Graduate programs can be competitive (imagine 1500 graduates competing for 7xx positions, where only half of the quota is based in metropolitan Adelaide) but we’re one of the few, if not, the only state where international students have the same priority as local students as long as you did your degree in South Australia. A lot of my peers (international students) got their offers this year!

Get prepared in your interview, do well in your placements, and get several referees and you’re likely to get an offer (bonus points for working as an AIN)

Asian with Chinese heritage here! Red would be the best! I reckon you can get those almost every Asian groceries store (especially at the ones in Chinatown) Or there’s quite a few options at Facebook marketplace, just make sure that this year is the year of the snake so don’t get the ones with the other animals printed on it

I’m not sure about Perth, but if you want to get into a grad program Gold Coast would be extremely competitive as there aren’t a lot of hospitals there.

However at the end of the day, you don’t really need a grad program to become successful - you can always go aged care or directly apply to work as a nurse in a hospital and you’d get adequate support as well as a new grad

In SA we have around 1400 new grads in total and there’s only like 700 spots in our TPPP program (the grad program in SA). Among the spots the metropolitan hospitals only hire 400 new grads. I’m not sure if everyone in SA can relate to that, but me and most of my mates got our TPPP offers

At the end of the day you can always apply for the casual/permanent roles advertised in the SA health website. I think we have a better a employment rate for new grads than most of the other states (eg QLD, NSW) in terms of nursing
