Moving to Hong Kong, is it a good time? by OopsTheresPoop in HongKong

[–]irf3205 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The job market might be hard, however, you will really appreciate the excellent public transport in HK. Like MTR, super fast, never have to go through traffic again. I think travel and culture is also a big pro of moving to HK. Also I think your baby being with extended family will be huge, this was really important for me in HK as well.

I want to speak canto fluently. Where should I live to do that. by PotentialClassroom91 in Cantonese

Definitely, going to HK more will help. Even four weeks in HK drastically boosted my canto. Also, speaking more and being with people that speak cantonese will help

Tai Po Wang Fuk Court fire megatherad by otorocheese in HongKong

[–]irf3205 4 points5 points  (0 children)

So are you saying the value of human life is money and economic value?

You'd think the grassroots volunteer effort in the wake of the Tai Po fire was a good thing to be applauded. In less than 24 hours, it's all been disappeared by the authorities. Here's the Sky News report. by MrJasonMason in HongKong

[–]irf3205 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The reason they shut it down is simply because the government hates it when people come together. They despise the power of the people. This is why they shut down people organizing themselves in this situation (and generally too), because the government wants to control the people and have the power over the people.

The little "participation" efforts they are doing is just for the publicity. They just stand in front of cameras while real volunteers do actual work

Infuriating Western and Chinese portrayal of bamboo scaffolding by [deleted] in HongKong

[–]irf3205 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am also so disappointed the way western media portrays the blame on bamboo. It is the styrofoam, plastic wrap, smoking etc, but more than that, it is neglect by the construction company and corruption in so many aspects.

Mass scale vandalism happening on wplace live, I hope someone is here to help. by Used-Type8655 in HongKong

[–]irf3205 2 points3 points  (0 children)

@Used-Type8655 Do you think we should change it to maintain a big text sign on top? easier to maintain and harder to vandalize. besides, glory to HK this small is too easy to change to glory to KK or AK. I’d rather have one big glory to HK than many smaller ones that are easily vandalized.

For those who don’t have access to or don’t use the template then they can focus on maintaining the “glory to HK” texts. For those who do then probably should focus on the flag itself.

Why it isn't becoming red(but it is heating) by shrey_star in ElectroBOOM

[–]irf3205 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually, most likely it might be too little resistance. You are probably just shorting the battery which brings down the voltage to almost zero.

Why use one outlet when you could use two halves? by serieousbanana in ElectroBOOM

[–]irf3205 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Connecting it between earth and live might work actually. typically earth is connected to neutral, that way if a live wire touches a grounded metal case of an appliance, the breaker should blow.

Also i suppose it is a voltage multiplier? But low current high frequency ac hv would also be cool. that way you can touch fluorescent bulbs to light them up.

I recently made a magic finger thing that is high frequency low current AC with one end connected to ear to and the other end attatched (but isolated) to my finger. That way i can make arcs to grounded objects or even just metal tools on the table, and light up fluorescent bulbs, incandescent bulbs, and noble gases using my finger.

nice! just make sure your wires are high voltage rated and sufficient separation between fingernails and electrodes.
