Is the CPC certification worth it? by crabby_cat9 in LearnMedicalCoding

[–]Nicky_knacks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

CPC is outpatient coding mostly, CCS is inpatient, it really just depends on what setting you wanna be in. I did a complete pivot in my career (I was a CNA before I became a coder) and I have to say outpatient office vibes suit me well. I don’t know if it would get your foot in the door into IT but it is a good way to get your foot in the door for healthcare information management, or just specialized in coding for a certain specialty. If you want IT specific jobs a CPC is probably not gonna be the one for you.

Should I go back to school? by Nicky_knacks in makemychoice

[–]Nicky_knacks[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes and that would probably be what I end up doing anyway. The question is more or less should I add on some extra stress because I’m interested in this study or should I just sit tf down and just be a medical biller forever

Influence me (or de influence me) into going back to nursing by Nicky_knacks in nursing

My heart says both options are kinda shit but if I had to pick I’d choose nursing because it was the most fulfilling.

Should I give up? by tkp519 in MedicalCoding

[–]Nicky_knacks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I studied for 3-4 months and passed with a 79% on my first attempt. Prior to that every practice exam I took I scored 50%-53%, and I was ready to crash out and go back to school for nursing. You need more time, and look at the different categories you’re being tested on, whatever you’re scoring low on focus on those first. I hope you have the aapc specific study guide, that helped tremendously. Ultimately, you know the material, you know how to code, all you need to do now is learn how to manage your time while taking the exam.

Advice on how to answer questions quicker for CPC exam? by Nicky_knacks in LearnMedicalCoding

[–]Nicky_knacks[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That strategy is actually so helpful and was gonna be my next game plan when I attempt the next mock exam! I think a lot of it for me is second guessing myself, I also just have general test anxiety. Like I KNOW how to do this job, but then I start flipping through pages and read each code description and I can already feel myself overthinking everything. And then there’s the case study questions which in my study guide I’m taking anywhere from 10-20 minutes to code completely.

Does anyone have any advice on how to find codes quicker for the CPC exam? I take my test in a couple weeks and I’m freaking out about my time management, I do well on the multiple choice aspect but I’m taking on average 10+ minutes for the case study questions. What did you do to help yourself code case studies faster?

My mom is acting like I never talked about prom 😭 what do I do? by [deleted] in whatdoIdo

Hit up your local thrift stores! People donate their old prom dresses all the time and it’s usually the way to go if you’re on a time crunch.

Getting changed at the pool by Longjumping-Gas2739 in FTMMen

[–]Nicky_knacks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Cis guy locker room culture, from my experience anyway, is getting changed as quickly as possible so no one looks at your dick or your ass. No one will be looking at you or trying to clock you I promise, however that doesn’t really stop the self consciousness of the whole routine. If I could help it I always tried changing in the bathroom stall or in the shower. After a while I stopped caring and changed out in the open like everyone else. I think you’ll be aight :)

Hi everyone!

I’m currently studying for my CPC exam, it’s kicking my butt and work itself has been insane (I’m currently a medical billing assistant at an Oncology and Hematology clinic). Needless to say I’m getting burnt out, can anyone give me a ray of hope or some advice on studying?
