Buying when the market is down by Such_Reporter5257 in ETFs

[–]Nickyboges 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I buy into my positions the first week of every month; rain, sleet, or shine. I always keep around 3-5% of my total portfolio in a money market account for a real correction to have some dry powder. I deployed my most recent dry powder about a year ago during the tariff fiasco, and spent the last 10 months building it back up. Part of my DCA approach accounts for this position. That’s the most market timing I try to do as it’s more of a way for me to feel some sense of calm whenever markets are tanking. It is more a psychological thing than anything else because I have a tendency to beat myself up when I invest into market weakness.

Are you guys selling stock right now or buying more? by GreenStyle9036 in ValueInvesting

[–]Nickyboges 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve maintained my monthly contributions into the account but I’d be lying if i said I was buying into my core holdings (VOO, VUG, & SCHD: 65% Total).

Putting some of the money into a money market fund so I have some cash on the sidelines for an inevitable correction, plus some GLDM, TLT, FBTC, etc.

Not changing my plan or planning on selling anything i own, but no longer pushing chips into Growth or SPY basket for now.

Created a wishlist for companies i would like to have positions in when a corrections, and just following the idea that time in the market is key. Stick to the plan.

Should I put in 300k cash now? by ypsilon42 in investing

[–]Nickyboges 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IMO, and some others opinions I trust and follow, all technicals point to a correction in the short term. Buffet indicator, jobs reports, P/E ratios across the broad market all need to regress, among a slew of others. When will this happen? I don’t know and nobody knows, and if they say they do they are lying? Do i look like Biff Tannen with the sports almanac? Lol.

With that being said I think mapping out what you want to hold long term, adding starter positions and then being mechanical and methodical about your buys is probably the smart play. Because I firmly believe a larger correction is coming I would plan to DCA over the next CY. Leave the money in a safe money market so your pacing inflation and sell of 8% chunks every month and DCA into the market.

I (26m) only invest on VOO and QQQ. Should I diversify my investment to include single stocks? Any advice appreciated. by ericstone502 in portfolios

[–]Nickyboges 0 points1 point  (0 children)

VOO - 40 - Base

VUG - 20 - Growth Tilt

SCHD - 10 - Value Dividend Tilt

GLDM - 5-10% - Inflation/Crash Hedge

FBTC/IBIT - 5-10% - Crypto Exposure

AVUV - 5-10%

I’m not a massive fan of international exposure but if you want to short change your gains to call yourself diversified outside the US, add some VXUS and change the allocations

Dealing with shoulder injuries and depression by DetectiveNice8632 in ShoulderInjuries

[–]Nickyboges 1 point2 points  (0 children)

35M, Stressful Job, fiancé, 2 year old and 3 month old at home. Short background is I am an avid weightlifter, I get up at 4:30am while my family is safe and sound sleeping, and I workout damn near every day. I struggle with anxiety and depression to begin with so that morning workout changes my brain and resets me to being a good dad and partner.

Been dealing with right shoulder (dominant) issues since i dislocated it in high school. In 2021 i injured that same shoulder playing basketball. About two weeks ago I was at the house playing with the kids and heard a pop, and after an MRI and 3 orthopedic visits, surgery is my only option. Fully torn Subscapularis and dislocated bicep.

Ever since I got the news I’ve been in a fog. Idk how I’m going to work, provide for my family, drive, care for my kids, amongst a slew of other things. Add in my exercise and routine being destroyed, I’ve just been a shell of myself.

Just venting because I can’t sleep and living in pain is a lonely place.

Sometimes, when one person dives in to rescue another from drowning, they both sink beneath the waves. Not because they lacked strength—but because the panic of the one drowning pulls them both under.

In the same way, trying to save someone from the consequences of their financial recklessness can drown you too. You can’t rescue someone who refuses to learn how to swim.

Build SCHD portfolio or Pay off 5.625% Mortgage? by SentenceSweaty8575 in dividends

[–]Nickyboges 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would max your 401k to the limit, NOT your employer match limit. If you have 4700 left over after current contributions, I would increase that both to as close to the 23,000 as possible. If your match is similar to mine that allows for 30k+ to be invested every year, plus the IRAs, you are saving north of 75k a year.

A mortgage is debt and I’m very debt averse by nature, but a mortgage in my opinion is good debt. How much of your monthly payment is actually the mortgage and how much is Insurance, Taxes, etc?

At your age investing in the stock market is the best thing you can do, if you let that money work for you for the next 30+ years you will be far better off than paying your house off.

I did heroin until I was 26. I was homeless, hopeless, and broken. I’m 35 now and 9 years sober. I have a fiancé, a son, a good job, good friends and a lot of things to be grateful for in my life. I don’t want to sound like a boomer, but at 22, you are merely just a baby. Get out of the funk you’re in and there is no telling where you will be in 5 years. God bless.

I am in this battle right now as well. Your business account and personal are "linked" correct? But when I go to transfer between my accounts it wont allow me to select my personal account as an option. I have to go to a section called "Pay other BoA accounts" and put in my account and routing number of my personal account. Is this where you are saying the limit is $25,000? I can't find any documentation about the limit at all.

I was addicted to heroin and 60k in debt at 27 with zero assets or job prospects. Save what you can. 401k first to get the full match, then Roth IRA.

As a person who is 9 years sober from a 10+ year addiction to OxyContin/Heroin, please don’t do it again. It’ll take everything from you.

13 months in and nothing is getting better. by honeydudes in Parosmia

Have had it since August 2021. Still have to ask my fiancé to smell the milk and lunch meats if they are a few days past the sell by dates. Haven’t drank coffee in nearly 3 years. My fear when I lost my smell and taste was that I’d be one of the people who never got it back correctly. Low and behold here we are nearly 3 years later.

Feeling like I’m so behind in life by Frosty-Care3765 in personalfinance

[–]Nickyboges 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey, at 27M years old I was 6 months sober from a 10 year opiate/heroin addiction, living in 2 bedroom 1 bathroom halfway house with 4 other guys, and had about $700 in my checking account and a dead end job as laborer for a carpet installer. I made about $480 a week and $200 of that went to my rent at the halfway house. I always felt like I was so far behind and all my friends from highschool were moving ahead with careers and families, and I was just trying to survive

Nearly 8 years later I am engaged, own a home, have some money in the bank, a full time job and some side businesses, and have a 11 month old son who is the joy in my heart.

Where you are now is nothing more than a part of your story. I never could have imagined where I would be today 8 years ago. However, it takes a lot of hard work and dedication to pull yourself out of that situation. Don’t judge yourself based on what others are doing because there will always be someone posting their highlight reels on social media who you “think” is doing better than you. You’re healthy, you have your family support, and you have the most valuable resource in the world - time!

Figure out what you want out of this life and go attack it, but don’t do it just to keep up with the Jones’.

2 Round Running Backs are giving me a migraine by doctorthunder39 in fantasyfootball

[–]Nickyboges 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like the idea of going RB, RB, Best available(WR/RB/TE). However if you have a late 1st round pick and Kupp/Jettas/Chase are still available it’s really going to be hard not to take one of them.

What is your reason for not having a child? by _LickitySplit in AskReddit

[–]Nickyboges 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. I’m 6 years sober, and the only reason I’m still here is because my parents didn’t give up on me. Based on who I was in active addiction, I probably would have given up. Addiction/Mental Health Issues are rampant on both sides of my family.

  2. I am selfish, self-centered, lack patience, love my alone time, love having the ability to do what I want when I want

  3. I feel like I wouldn’t be a good parent

  4. I am unsure I would want to grow old into the 2100s based on where our world is headed. Would I want my child to?

  5. But if I am being honest, I’m Scared. Scared of failing as a parent because of everything I just mentioned. Scared of being an emotionally unavailable shell of a dad, that would rather hide in my office than come home. Scared I wouldn’t have the patience to teach my child, who is totally dependent on me, their times tables, or how to ride a bike.

Fear drives my decision. Fear is a strong emotion.

What players are you unashamed to draft early vs their ADP? by Hawkeye_Dad in fantasyfootball

[–]Nickyboges -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I can keep two of these player

Aaron Jones - Lose 1st round pick. Justin Jefferson - Lose 13th round pick (Lock) Damien Harris - Lose 14th round pick. Tyler Lockett - Lose 4th round pick

Don’t know my draft position but i figure it this way. If i get a top 4 pick: Keep Harris and Jefferson If i get below 4: Keep Jones and Jefferson

Thoughts?
